Jay Sorensen, popular radio veteran, brings a new and different kind of talk show to Greater Media radio station WJRZ-FM 100.1 with his new weekly call-in show, “Down the Shore.” The show airs Sundays from 7-10 a.m. and is programmed to give the power to the callers. It is designed to talk about the issues and lifestyles of the people who live at the Jersey Shore.

According to Mike Kazala, station manager, the new program hopes to give Jersey Shore residents and community leaders an opportunity to talk about the issues and ideas that are of the most concern to them.

Sorensen has been in broadcasting for 35 years and is familiar with the issues concerning residents of the area. His 35-year resume includes co-hosting the “Jay and Hilarie” radio show in the early 1990s on New Jersey 101.5 FM in addition to hosting the show solo from 1998 to 1999. He currently can be heard weekday mornings from 5-10 a.m. with Dianne DeOliveira on Oldies 100 WJRZ.

Sorensen has been involved in a number of endeavors throughout the community. He served on the board of directors for the local March of Dimes chapter. He also headed several charity fund-raisers through the years for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and Salvation Army, and has been involved in numerous charity drives in New Jersey, Philadelphia and Dallas.

“Down the Shore” will feature pertinent discussions backed by live appearances from community leaders and players that affect the everyday lives of the people in the area. To enter the forum, dial (732) 505-1001 and be heard.

Jim Farrell, chief financial officer of Single Throw Inc. (an Internet marketing company in Wall) and first vice president of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, has formed the Monmouth-Ocean chapter of the Financial Exec-utives Networking Group (FENG). The FENG was founded by Donald J. Gonsalves in 1991 and is now headed by Matt Bud. The organization helps financial professionals to network, share job leads and establish business relationships with others in the financial community. Members consist of chief financial officers, controllers and vice presidents of finance, treasury and tax, as well as other financial disciplines. The organization has chapters in Mercer and Bergen counties, and now in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Farrell, who has been involved with the FENG since 1997, answered the repeated calls from area FENG members to form a chapter. The chapter will meet every second Tuesday of the month at Single Throw’s corporate offices in Wall Township from 6-8 p.m. Farrell hopes this new chapter will give financial executives in Monmouth and Ocean counties an opportunity to network and help with continuing education.
