The Monmouth/Ocean Chapter of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO) recently presented the Teal Heart Service Award to three local female business owners. Sue Cole, sole proprietor and operator of The Illustrated Chef, Matawan; Stephanie Geisel, client manager at Margery S. Davidson, Certified Public Accountants Inc., Aberdeen; and Dawn Nakash, president and founder of Daybreak Marketing Services Inc., Jackson, received the award at the organization’s meeting in late March. The award honors NJAWBO members who have distinguished themselves in the chapter, and gone above and beyond the call of duty.

The Jersey Shore Public Relations and Advertising Association, Red Bank, will hold a networking luncheon May 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Branches, 123 Monmouth Road, West Long Branch. The guest speaker will be Darralyn Rieth, director of global design for the Campbell Soup Co. She will discuss worldwide branding. Prevention First, Shrewsbury, announced that its executive director and CEO, Mary Pat Angelini, has been honored with the 2005 Distinguished Leadership Award at the Epiphany House’s eighth annual recognition dinner. Angelini was recognized for her achievements and continued advocacy in substance abuse prevention while empowering women and children to fight addiction. She has built Prevention First’s budget from $125,000 to $1 million. She is the immediate past president of the N.J. Prevention Network and has served on committees such as the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Monmouth County Employer Legislative Committee, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Health Initiatives Advisory Committee. She also produced and hosted a weekly cable show called “Issues of Substance” to educate the public about addiction. Epiphany House promotes sobriety and self-sufficiency in homeless, recovering chemically dependent women with children.

The certified public accounting firm of WithumSmith & Brown (WS&B), Red Bank, announced the promotion of Edgar Basilio from information technology (IT) consultant to IT manager in the firm’s internal technology department. The Middletown resident will manage the firm’s internal technology requirements and oversee IT staff, which provides services to all office locations. Basilio joined WS&B in November 2001 as a network engineer. Prior to joining WS&B, he was a senior accountant. His credentials include Cisco-certified network associate and Microsoft-certified professional. Basilio earned his diploma in Internet work engineering from PC AGE Certified IT Career Institute, Parsippany, and his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Rutgers University, New Brunswick.

New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants announced that its Disaster Recovery Guide is now available free of charge. The updated guide provides free financial and tax advice to crisis victims, and includes information on topics such as how to document losses and replace personal identification papers. It also includes IRS forms and publications.
