The auto insurance firm of High Point, Red Bank, has announced Roman DeSimone, 10, New Monmouth section of Middletown, was recently named a “Kid Who Rocks!” for performing an extraordinary act for his family and community. He will receive a $25 gift certificate to Monmouth Mall, Eatontown, and four tickets to a May 2005 awards banquet. High Point is a sponsor of the “Kids Who Rock” program, which acknowledges children in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Roman hosted a carnival in his back yard last summer and raised $375 for the American Cancer Society. Paul Rinaldi, assistant director of the Monmouth/Ocean Small Business Development Center at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, and managing partner at PenEm Group, LLC, Middletown, recently delivered a presentation to Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity at the Stern School of Business at New York University. Rinaldi presented “Importance of Small Business in America,” as well as how small business is the leading employer for new jobs.

Elvira Carpinteyro, Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, recently received the Employee of the Month Award for March from Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Carpinteyro has served the past four years as a patient care associate in various areas of emergency care at the center. Her bilingual skills are also an asset to the department when communicating with Spanish-speaking patients and assessing emergency medical conditions. Active in the pediatric emergency department, she received a nomination from its director Cecilia Jácome, M.D. Carpinteyro received a bachelor of science degree in biology at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, and volunteered at Monmouth Medical before completing specialized training and assuming her present position in August 2001. She is pursuing her master’s degree in biology at Georgian Court University, Lakewood.

The Employee Volunteer Connection of Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, and the Coalition for Service-Learning of Monmouth County hosted the annual “Empty Bowls Event” in late April, and raised $660 to be donated to the RSVP Food Pantry, Long Branch. Students from Brookdale’s culinary arts program prepared and donated various soups and baked dessert. A variety of handmade ceramic bowls made by staff and students in the college’s Center for Visual Arts were presented to each participant. The bowls symbolize community members depending on the generosity of others to have enough to eat. The employee volunteer connection is comprised of college employees that serve the needs of the community.

The Inner Circle Alliance (ICA), a new networking group for Monmouth County, recently elected its first board and board officers for two-year terms. Guy Paredes, founder of ICA and COO of Atlantic Horizon Benefit Services and CEO of Atlantic Horizon Financial Services, Shrewsbury, will serve as chairman. President is Joe Anselmo, president of Titan-MMS/DMAS Financial Services, Red Bank. Serving as secretary will be Beth Catola, vice president of sales for HyTec Telephone, Wall Township; while Michael Crowley, CPA and partner at J.H. Cohn, Eatontown, will serve as treasurer. Other board members are Laurie Friedman, Realtor, Weichert of Holmdel; Michael Bacchetta, owner of Bacc Builders, New York City; and Jim Worrell, sales engineer at Automated Building Controls, Neptune. The ICA meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 a.m. at The Colts Neck Cafe, Route 34 north. Guests are free but must register by calling Guy at (732) 578-1900, ext. 14.

The board of trustees at CPC Behavioral Healthcare, Middletown and Red Bank, has named John Mans, Brick, as president and CEO. He replaces William Barry, who stepped down in May 2004. Mans is a CPA, and has served as CPC’s chief financial officer the past six years, as well as the interim CEO during the search process. Prior to joining CPC, he was corporate manager of payroll and accounts payable at Meridian Health Systems, and assistant controller at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. During his tenure at CPC, Mans has directed the financial operations of a $28 million organization with 425 employees, presided over the expansion of programming for children, oversaw implementation of a federal grant program to provide early treatment to teenagers just beginning to use alcohol or drugs, and he assisted with the addition of more classrooms for CPC’s High Point Adolescent School. Mans is a graduate of Seton Hall University, South Orange.
