Boleslaw “Bolek” Waga

Mr. Waga, 81, of Spotswood, died May 27 at home. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was predeceased by an infant son, Jerzy. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanna F. Pazgrat Waga; three daughters, Irena B. Waga of Garfield, and Grace M. Cancel and Margaret M. Waga, both Spotswood; a son and daughter-in-law, George B. and Barbara Waga of Locust Grove, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Bronislaw an Isabella Waga of Sparta; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Arrangements were by Eckman Funeral Home, Spotswood.

Sophie Gursky

Mrs. Gursky, 82, of Freehold, died May 31 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided in Bayonne before moving to Freehold 19 years ago. She was predeceased by a daughter, Elaine, in 1997, and a brother, Richard. Surviving are her husband, Frank; a son, Walter of Freehold; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Fred Rolon of Old Bridge; two sisters, Helen Abbate of Delray Beach, Fla., and Viola Kotarski of Maspeth, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

Domenick Blotto

Mr. Blotto, 97, of Spotswood, died May 28 at home. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred, in 1978; a daughter, Donna Kohler; a brother, Anthony Blotta; and a sister, Mary D’Elia. Mr. Blotto is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Carol Blotto of Monroe Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Rachelle and Lynn Kane of Phoenix; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment was at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Coram, N.Y. Arrangements were by Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick.

Susan Rosen Stone

Mrs. Stone, 79, of Monroe Township, died May 29 at home. She was predeceased by her husband, Max Stone; and two sons, Philip and Martin Stone. She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Liebowitz of Long Island, N.Y. A graveside service was held at Floral Park Cemetery, South Brunswick. Arrangements were by Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick.

Bernardine A. Stuby Vass

Mrs. Vass, 71, of South River, died May 29 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. She was a retired secretary for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, East Brunswick. Mrs. Vass was predeceased by her husband, Stephen A. Vass, in 1993. She is survived by a niece, Colleen S. Vass of Old Bridge. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. The Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond M. Nelson

Mr. Nelson, 42, of the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen, died June 2 at Jersey City Medical Center. Born in South Amboy, he resided in the Leonardo section of Middletown before moving to Cliffwood seven years ago. Mr. Nelson was an assistant plant manager at Gardner Asphalt Corp., South Kearny, for the past nine years. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Nelson. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Dora and Charles Hamilton Weidner of Hazlet; a daughter, Larissa Nelson of Keyport; three sisters, Tracey Cameron of Cliffwood, Marjorie Kobesto of Jamesburg, and Beverly Nelson of Kansas; and three brothers, Lester Nelson and Chris Nelson, both of Missouri, and Kenny Nelson of Keansburg. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Mary Ellen McKeon Pollock

Mrs. Pollock, 77, of East Brunswick, died June 3 at home. Her husband, Leonard A. Pollock, died in 2004. Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Andriaccio of Buffalo, N.Y.; and three grandsons, Vincent, Michael and Nicholas. A Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick.

Salvatore Vincent Lucarello

Mr. Lucarello, 82, of Spotswood, formerly of Metuchen, died May 22 at home. He was involved the East Brunswick Night-Driver program as a driver of handicapped individuals. His wife, Kathleen, died in 2000. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth A. Siemon of Monroe and Louise Cymbaluk of Piscataway; three brothers, Joseph, Ralph and Vincent Lucarello; three grandchildren; and his longtime companion, Shirley Monahan. Services were arranged by Eckman Funeral Home, Spotswood. Entombment was in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Titusville, Fla.

Madaline Jean Sassaman

Ms. Sassaman, 57, of South River, died June 1 at home. Her mother, Phyllis Anelli, died in 2001, and her father, Harry W. Sassaman, died in 2003. Surviving are two brothers, Harry J. Sassaman of South River and Phillip Sassaman of Mount Upton, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann; and three nieces and a nephew. Private services were under the direction of Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover. Fred W. Shawlinski

Mr. Shawlinski, 62, of Little Ferry, formerly of East Brunswick, died June 6 in Holy Name Medical Center, Teaneck. Surviving are his former wife, Kathleen Shawlinski of East Brunswick; three sons, Scott of the Toms River section of Dover, Robert of Wahiawa, Hawaii, and David of East Brunswick; three brothers, Ronald Shawlinski of Orlando, Fla., and Joseph Shawlinski and Wayne Shawlinski, both of New York City; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. James W. “Bill” Appleby

Mr. Appleby, 86, of Monroe, formerly of South River, died June 2 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Ochs Appleby; a son, James William Appleby II of Fallsington, Pa.; two daughters, Cathy Heuser of Jackson and Bess Servon of South River; four brothers. J.R. and Richard of the Toms River section of Dover and John and Donald of Seaside Park; a sister, Katherine Blonsky of Monroe; and seven grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Stanley J. Garbowski

Mr. Garbowski, 69, of Sayreville, died May 24 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was an elementary school teacher with the Sayreville Board of Education for 37 years, retiring in 1994. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the director of the Sayreville Recreation Department. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Charlotte Lajewski Garbowski; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Stanley Garbowski of Sayreville, and Ricky J. and Judy Garbowski of Georgia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Michele Garbowski of South Bound Brook, and Diane and Peter Maier of Georgia; a sister, Mary Ann Kucharski of Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church, Sayreville, followed by burial at the church’s cemetery. Arrangements were by Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville.
