The Cheesequake 14-year-old all-star team won its district to move on to the Babe Ruth State Championship. Last Wednesday, they beat Manalapan, 4-1, to take the district title. This year, two districts were combined and Cheesequake took the title for both districts.

They mercied all four teams, Manalapan, South Plainfield, North Edison and Middlesex, and then replayed Manalapan (last year’s state champs) for the title. Cheesequake now moves to states, starting July 22 in East Hanover. The team is managed by Jim Vafiadou and coached by John Pancetti. Also sharing coaching duties are Al Caso and Joe Specchio. Team members are Frank Baldini, Greg Caso, Quentin Crawford, Dan Cuevas, George Gonzalez, Justin Hagner, Kevin MacLachlan, Kevin Moser, Jeff Pancetti, Pat Specchio, Rob Vafiadou and Dan Walsh

The Old Bridge Rockets are looking for a goalkeeper and one to two position players born between Aug. 1 1992, to July 31, 1993. Last season, the Rockets were 19-0-1 in MOSA National 2 and National 1. The Rockets will play in the U13 MOSA Premier division starting in September. They practice two days per week, and have a trainer that has been with the team for the past four years. The following are the results of the Tamarack Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Association’s July 14 outing — three worst holes revert to par.

Jean Ertle won the A Flight with a 24, followed by Ann Marie Broehl (27), Rosann Marosy (27) and Dot Terringer (27). Jeannette Squires won the B Flight with a 21, followed by Fran Poulin (24), Joan Semen (26) and Joyce Nicolaison (26). Sally Hindes won the C Flight with a 20, followed by Gloria Frock (25). Ertle had fewest putts with 14.

Madison Park Girls Fall Softball will hold in-person registration for the fall season on Aug. 9. Registration time is 6-8:30 p.m. at the Old Bridge Public Library in the conference room. The program is open to all girls ages 6-16 from Old Bridge and surrounding areas. Registration fees are $50 per player, with a $100 maximum per family. No work bond is required. The Zebulon Soccer Club and South River Parks and Recreation Department is offering a new youth soccer club. Registrations for recreation (for South River residents from Sept. 1-Oct. 31) and travel teams are currently forming. Registration for travel teams is open to all area boys and girls. Registration will be held at the soccer field on Veterans Drive in South River on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5-6:30 p.m. in July and August (weather permitting). The Central East Jersey Basketball Officials (CEJBO) organization is now accepting applications from those men and women, who are at least 18 years of age as of Sept. 1, who are interested in becoming a high school basketball official. Classes will run from late September through mid-November, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, at East Brunswick High School.
