Perlmutter Family ShopRite of Jackson will host culinary workshops for children ages 8-15 beginning Sept. 23. Classes will be held Fridays from 5-7 p.m. and require preregistration at the customer service desk. The program fee is $20, which covers one child and one adult. Parents must accompany children at all workshops.

Children will experience hands-on preparation of meals, including appetizers, main courses, soups and desserts. Menus vary each week. Check the fall culinary brochure or log onto shoprite.com for menu selections.

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. announced that the Howell Stop & Shop raised $9,400 as part of the 2005 Triple Winner Game. The $9,400 is part of the $1 million raised in Stop & Shop stores across New York and New Jersey to benefit Memorial Sloan-Ketter-ing Cancer Center.

The Triple Winner Game is a scratch card promotion in which every ticket is an instant winner, offering prizes of a free product, gift certificate, or cash prize up to $10,000. Throughout the summer store associates sold $1 Triple Winner Game tickets at the checkout.

Laurita Winery, New Egypt, has registered in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS), an international program administered by Audubon International designed to help landowners preserve and enhance the environmental quality of their property. The ACSS provides an advisory service to help landowners develop effective conservation and wildlife enhancement programs. This worldwide effort is coordinated by Audubon International.

Joining and participating in the ACSS will involve Laurita Winery in projects that enhance wildlife habitat and conserve natural resources for the benefit of the community. These projects include enhancing the property for native wildlife, placing nesting boxes for cavity-nesting birds, conserving water and energy, and recycling wastes.

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. and Giant Food have an-nounced plans to collect customer donations for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort in the Gulf Coast starting Sept. 2. All Stop & Shop, Giant Food and Super G stores will participate. All funds collected from the drive will go to the American Red Cross and America’s Second Harvest – the nation’s food bank network, to help the victims of one of the most devastating storms in American history. The supermarket chains are also collecting donations from associates at their main offices and distribution facilities.

The Howell Chamber of Commerce will hold a general membership meeting on Sept. 28, 11:45 a.m. at the Southard Fire House, Route 9 north, Howell.
