John McGeehan, community relations coordinator at CentraState Health-care System, Freehold Township, has been sworn in as president of the Sunrise Optimist Club of Freehold. The oath of office was administered by Gary Rosen-berg, governor of the New Jersey-New York District of Optimist International.

McGeehan had previously served as the organization’s vice president and was a member of the board of directors.

During the ceremonies, Rosenberg also inducted the following officers: President-elect Scott Pinheiro, Vice President Larry Iserson, Secretary Joe Salkin, Treasurer Jeff Shapiro and Sergeant-at-Arms Eric Barbesh.

The 117-member Sunrise Optimist Club of Freehold provides and supports dozens of activities annually for local youth, and a special project of Optimist International is childhood cancer. Chartered in 1986, the Sunrise Optimist Club will celebrate its 20th anniversary on July 1.

Dr. David A. Lederman of Freehold was awarded fellowship in the American College of Dentists on Oct. 6 during the organization’s annual meeting and convocation in Philadelphia. Approx-imately 3.5 percent of dentists are fellows of the American College of Dentists.

Lederman is a member of the Gover-nor’s Task Force on Cancer Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment in New Jersey and chairs the Workgroup on Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancer. He is a clinical associate professor at Seton Hall University’s School of Graduate Medical Education and an adjunct assistant professor at Temple University School of Dentistry and Nova Southeastern Uni-versity College of Dental Medicine, both in Pennsylvania. He is also a senior attending dentist at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, and past chair of its dental department, and a consultant in oral pathology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Lederman is director of oral and maxillofacial pathology for Lakewood Pathol-ogy Associates and director of the Center for Oral Medicine in Freehold.

Richard Darocha, a 25-year auto glass technician, announced the opening of his new venture, DuRite Auto Glass, at 470 Route 9 north in Marlboro. Michael Beer of Manalapan, an exclusive agent with Allstate New Jersey Insurance Co. (Allstate New Jersey), was awarded a 2005 Agency Hands in the Community Award for his commitment to volunteering in the community through the Central New Jersey Detachment of the U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots Founda-tion. With the award comes a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation for the Toys for Tots effort, a holiday toy drive that Beer has supported for a number of years.

Through a contingent of Allstate New Jersey agents called Mikes’ Bikes (most of the participants have the first name Mike), Beer has been collecting and distributing bicycles to needy Garden State children during the holidays. Beer was awarded the honor for his tireless efforts with the group.

The U.S. Small Business Adminis-tration is searching for outstanding New Jersey small business owners and small business champions who will be honored during National Small Business Week in the spring.

Nominations are being sought for New Jersey’s Small Business Person of the Year and for outstanding SBA Small Business Champions in the areas of minority, women, veteran, financial services, home-based business, and Small Business Journalist of the Year.

The SBA New Jersey District Office is also seeking candidates for Small Busi-ness Exporter of the Year, Young Entre-preneur of the Year, and an SBA Family-owned Business of the Year.

Winners will be recognized at the Ninth Annual New Jersey Small Busi-ness Conference, to be held at the Hyatt Hotel in New Brunswick.

Donna Cardillo will present a three-session workshop, “Learn to Speak With Style,” Oct. 25, Nov. 2 and 10, 6-9 p.m., at the Western Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, 17 Broad, St., Freehold. The New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners Monmouth-Ocean Chapter will host its annual holiday auction Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Eatontown. The organization is seeking gift donations, sponsors and advertisers for the holiday auction journal to be distributed at the event.

More than 150 people are expected to attend the holiday auction, which will feature live bidding on the donated gifts. All proceeds from the event will fund the NJAWBO Monmouth-Ocean Chapter’s education and legislative activities and support scholarship funds and outreach programs.

New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants is offering a Disaster Recovery Guide to provide advice on how to deal with many of the tax and insurance claim issues involved in recovery after a disaster. The guide also offers advice for advance preparation, should disaster suddenly strike.

The guide covers many of the details victims face, including documenting losses for tax and insurance purposes and replacing personal identification papers. The guide includes Internal Revenue Service forms and publications for use in filing casualty loss claims. instructions for replacing personal documents such as birth certificates and Social Security cards, and tips on documenting damages and losses for insurance claims.

Dr. Deborah Breitstein of Animal Health Care of Marlboro recently attended the first course of the credentialing process for physical therapy and rehabilitation for animals at the Univer-sity of Tennessee School of Veterinary Medicine. According to a press release from Animal Health Care, animals can benefit from physical therapy as post-operative patients, as an adjunct therapy for pain management and arthritis, for weight management and return-to-function training, and as a step-down process from hospital release after a brief or extended hospitalization.
