Art Beins Karate recently donated $4,240 to the American Red Cross to aid in the Hurricane Katrina relief and rebuilding efforts. The money was raised by more than 700 students from both the Howell and Freehold locations who participated in a night of contests, magic shows, martial arts performances, and many other surprises during a Hallo-ween Benefit Party titled “Halloween Relief for Those in Need.”

According to the press release, Art Beins Karate places a strong value on the contribution and service to others as they continually look for new ways to give back to the communities they serve. In the past, Master Beins has been able to raise more than $130,000 for various charities including muscular dystrophy, Lyme disease, breast cancer, pediatric AIDS, victims of the Oklahoma City disaster, and the Kidney Foundation.

Acting Gov. Richard J. Codey has submitted several nominations to the state Senate. Among the nominees are two Colts Neck residents: Mitchell E. Hersh, nominated for appointment to the Montclair State University Board of Trustees; and Anthony T. Abbatiello, nominated for the New Jersey Racing Commission.

John J. O’Connell Jr. of A&A Truck Parts, Freehold Township, was elected to a second term on the International Truck Parts Association Board of Directors during the association’s annual meeting held Oct. 21 in Miami.

A&A specializes in providing reconditioned, used and rebuilt components for heavy duty trucks in on-road and off-road service.

The International Truck Parts Association was founded in 1974. Its membership is limited to 130 companies in the United States, Canada and Aus-tralia.

Michael Beer, exclusive agent for Allstate New Jersey Insurance Co. in Manalapan, recently completed the Allstate Your Choice Auto Insurance series of education, enabling him to offer a new insurance product. The program included a combination of seminars, on-line instruction and a final exam.

The Port Authority Police Depart-ment promoted 23 of its members in a ceremony held recently in Newark. Among the officers who have been promoted are Freehold residents Thomas Marten Jr., who was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant, and John Weir, who has been promoted to detective.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey operates many of the busiest transportation links in the region, including New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport, AirTrain Newark, George Washington Bridge, Lincoln and Holland tunnels, Port Newark, Eliza-beth-Port Authority Marine Terminal, PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) transit system, and the three bridges between New Jersey and Staten Island, N.Y., as well as the 16-acre World Trade Center in lower Manhattan and other New York facilities.
