Herman Von Thun

    Herman A. Von Thun, 94, of Monroe, died Monday, Dec. 12, at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
    Born in East Brunswick, Mr. Von Thun lived in South Brunswick for most of his life before moving to Monroe in 2002. Mr. Von Thun retired from Raritan Lumber Co. in East Brunswick as an accountant. He was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dayton, achieving the position of treasurer, elder and superintendent of Sunday school, as well as many other committees of the church.
    He was a former member of the South Brunswick Seniors Club, treasurer of South Brunswick Township and the South Brunswick Planning Board, chairman of the South Brunswick Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Advisory Board member of the Heritage Bank of South Brunswick and the First Charter Bank of South Brunswick.
    His parents, Henry and Metta Flatmann Von Thun, and wife, late Alma S. Von Thun, are deceased. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Ronald Cook of New Providence; and two grandsons, David Cook of New York City; and Brian Cook of Hoboken.
    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at the A.S. Cole Son & Co. Funeral Home, 22 North Main St., Cranbury. The Rev. Kathy Nelson will be officiating. Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
