MIKES for Manville has been taking an active role in helping those in need, including former Manville resident Christine Brisebois, who has recently been diagnosed with leukemia.
MIKES for Manville organizes blood drives and free bone marrow screenings to match cancer patients with compatible bone marrow donors.
But even those who can’t donate blood can still help those in need by purchasing tickets to a Devils vs. Islanders hockey game on Feb. 11, a fundraiser organized by MIKES for Manville.
The money raised will go into the MIKES for Manville account and will help pay for bone marrow screening, lab tests and other expenses to encourage more potential donors.
"They (laboratories) charge a fee to do the scientific lab tests," Ray Walsh, president of MIKES for Manville said noting that each test can cost up to $75. "People that want to donate don’t have to pay. MIKES for Manville picks up the cost."
The hockey game will start at 1 p.m. at the Meadowlands and those who wish to take a bus to the game will meet at the Manville High School parking lot at 11 a.m.
Tickets are $35 for the game and $45 for the game and bus.
To purchase tickets call Bob Kita at 526-8705 or Ray Walsh at 725-0438.
