Sadie Copleman Shayevitz died Tuesday, Dec. 27, in Rochester, N.Y.
Born and raised in New Brunswick, she was valedictorian of New Brunswick High School. She graduated from the New Jersey College for Women, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduation she was employed by Middlesex County as a social worker. She subsequently retired to raise a family and later went back to work in the South River and Piscataway school systems, first as a teacher later as a school librarian. She lived in South River, before moving to Clearbrook.
She was an active member of the Anshe Emeth Sisterhood, a life member of Hadassah and class secretary of the Alumni Bulletin of Douglas College.
Her husband, Dr. Abraham Shayevitz, and her brothers, Dr. Hyman Copleman and Isadore Copleman, are deceased. She is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jay Shayevitz and Sue; grandchildren, Deena and Moishe Gutleizer and Avi and Givon; her sister, Lillian Copleman Sokoloff; her sister-in-law, Gloria Copleman; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 29, at Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Burial was at Congregation Anshe Emeth Cemetery, East Brunswick.
