Personnel recommendations OK’d by Valley school board

SCHOOL BOARD UPDATE

   Acceptance of three teacher resignations, one teacher retirement and the hiring of a new teacher for Toll Gate Grammar School were among the personnel actions unanimously approved by the Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education Jan. 17.
   The actions also included the hiring of four long-term substitute teachers and a bus driver. Long-term substitutes are paid by the day at .5 percent of the base annual salary of a regular teacher. All the personnel actions approved by the board came at the recommendation of Superintendent Judith Ferguson.
   The board accepted:
   — The retirement, effective July 1, of Central High School reading specialist Judith Baksany.
   — The resignation, effective Feb. 20, of Central High School teacher of the blind and visually impaired, Ronnie Staffenberg.
   — Acceptance of the resignation, effective Jan. 3, of Toll Gate Grammar teacher Barbara Babecki.
   The board appointed:
   — Liza Hill as a teacher at Toll Gate Grammar, effective Jan. 3, at an annual salary of $44,274.
   — Lynda Sears as a long-term substitute at Timberlane Middle School, for 2005-2206, effective Jan. 25.
   — Carolyn Sellars as a long-term substitute at Hopewell Elementary for 2005-2006, effective Jan. 5.
   — Appointment of Sean Mason as a long-term substitute at Bear Tavern Elementary for 2005-2006, effective March 6.
   — Appointment of Susan Cox as a long-term substitute at Stony Brook Elementary for 2005-2006, effective Jan. 9.
   — Appointment of Robin Carlini as a school bus driver for 2006-226 at an annual salary rate of $16,592, or $15.50 per hour for six hours per day for 182 days.
