Princeton Area Community Foundation issues grants

   The Princeton Area Community Foundation (PACF), a public nonprofit community foundation serving Mercer County and central New Jersey, awarded $3,052,209 in grants during 2005, including $357,500 to 22 local organizations through its latest Greater Mercer Grants competitive grants program in December.
   PACF collaborates with local donors, including the Harbourton Foundation and the following PACF Charitable Funds, to support the Greater Mercer Grants program: Tristan Beplat Fund; Blair Family Fund; Jane M. Campbell Fund; PACF Founders Fund; Robert Wood Johnson, Jr. Fund, Leroy E. "Brick" Purvis Charitable Fund, Barbara B. Smoyer Memorial Fund; Marjorie R. Smoyer Fund; Stanley C. Smoyer Fund; Frank E. Taplin Jr. Fund; Trenton Fund; Whitehead Fund, and the Willy N. Fund.
   Among the nonprofit organizations that received the Greater Mercer Grants are:
   • Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association: $15,000 for development of a self-sustaining, community-based transportation system for senior citizens in Mercer County.
   • Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund: $5,500 for the legal information hotline serving Mercer County’s Latino community.
   • McCarter Theatre Company: $10,000 for free and discounted arts education activities for Mercer County students.
   • New Jersey SEEDS: $7,000 for transportation for students participating in the Scholars Program at Princeton Day School.
   • People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos: $34,000 for bringing diverse participants from across Mercer County together to read and discuss literature in order to promote understanding across communities and civic engagement.
   • Princeton Community Associates: $20,000 for an analysis of housing needs and opportunities in Princeton Borough and Township.
   • Princeton Public Library Foundation: $6,000 for library programs and services for Princeton’s Latino community.
   • Small Miracles Foundation: $15,000 for music education for qualified children in Mercer County and mentoring for the volunteer student teachers.
   • Trenton Area Soup Kitchen: $15,000 for the adult education program.
