MILLSTONE – Resident Deborah Novellino seeks election to the Millstone Township Board of Education.
Novellino, who resides on Carriage Way, has lived in town for nine years and has two children in the Millstone Township School District.
She said the district is currently facing diverse challenges.
Novellino said she would like to see the new middle school open “on time and on budget.” She also wants students’ transitions into the new school to be as smooth as possible.
“With the new school, hopefully the overcrowding will be somewhat alleviated,” she said.
Novellino said she would also like to see an improvement in the district’s test scores because “they are still low in the math area.”
If elected, she said she would work to strengthen the board’s relationship with the Upper Freehold Regional School District, since Millstone sends its high school-aged students to Allentown High School.
“Unfortunately, due to state laws Millstone does not have as much say with the high school’s costs, programs and other activities,” Novellino said. “Our district should lobby with the state legislation to make changes.”
Novellino said she would like Millstone to have more board seats on the Upper Freehold Board of Education. She also said she wants the board to provide the community with more information and to encourage more parents to attend board meetings.
