Joseph Montanti

Mr. Montanti, 55, of Monroe, formerly of South River and Spotswood, died April 15 in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was employed for the past two years as the environmental protection manager for the township of Monroe. He also served on the Monroe Township Planning Board for the past 12 years. His father, Salvatore, died in 2002. Surviving are his mother, Grace; his wife, Dorothy Nowitzke Montanti; a son, Michael J. of Seattle; a daughter, Ryan Lynn of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Peter J. and Deborah of Jonesborough, Tenn.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Deborah and Kazim Ahmed of Monroe; and two nieces and two nephews. Services are planned for 11 a.m. on April 20 at M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Monroe. Anthony L. Bersani

Mr. Bersani, 47, of East Brunswick, died April 17 in Saint Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. He began his career as a stringer/freelance reporter for the Associated Press. He worked for the Atlantic City Press and the Asbury Park Press before being named managing editor of The Home News (now Home News Tribune). He later worked for Dow Jones, South Brunswick, before returning to the Associated Press as project manager, where he worked for the past three and one-half years. He was predeceased by his father, Angelo C. Bersani. Surviving are his wife, Stacey McDonnell Bersani; a daughter, Angela Bersani, at home; his mother, Pauline Bersani of Elk Township; a brother, Angelo C. Bersani Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; and a sister, Carolyn Ferrucci of Franklin Township, Gloucester County. A Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. on April 20 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Sharon E. Kozla Eichert

Mrs. Eichert, 54, of North Brunswick, died April 9 at home. Born in St. Clair, Pa., she resided in New Brunswick, South River and East Brunswick, prior to moving to North Brunswick in 1973. She was a sheriff’s officer at the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department form 1985-98. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church, North Brunswick. She was a charter member of the F.O.P. Lodge No. 59, Middlesex County Sheriff’s Officers, and North Brunswick Adult Drama Group. She was predeceased by a brother and sister, Charles and Jacqueline Kozla. She is survived by her husband, Ronald J. Eichert; a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie T. and James Garland of Orlando; and a brother, Allen Kozla of Somerset. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery, North Brunswick. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.

Lorraine Gillar Herbert

Mrs. Herbert, 80, of East Brunswick, died April 10 at home. She was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Herbert was the secretary at Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick, the past 49 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Milltown. Mrs. Herbert was predeceased by her husband, Everett, in 1989; and two brothers, Kurt Gillar and Raymond Gillar. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Gail Herbert of Jackson; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Interment took place at Van Liew Cemetery. Zoila Gonzalez Cruz

Mrs. Cruz, 97, of East Brunswick, died April 11 at home. Her husband, Dr. Alberto Cruz Caso, died in 1979. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Livia and Michael Periu and Zoila and Joaquin Montes, all of East Brunswick; and three grandchildren. A liturgy was offered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, New Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

Delphia Hoffman

Mrs. Hoffman, 88, of Spotswood, died April 8 at home. Prior to her retirement, she was the owner of New Method Beauty Salon, New Brunswick. Before that, she was the proprietor of Delphia’s Beauty Salon, Spotswood. Her husband, Louis Hoffman, died in 1966. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Sandra Hoffman of Pine Island, Fla.; a niece, Sabina McCormack, with whom she lived for 30 years; and three grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Forest Green Park Cemetery, East Brunswick. Helen Vrieslander Nalitt

Mrs. Nalitt, 91, of Monroe, died April 11 in University Medical Center at Princeton. She and her husband, Monroe Township Councilman Irwin Nalitt, were longtime volunteers at the Monroe Township Public Library, and a children’s playground was dedicated in their honor in 2004. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Celia Domalewski of Rochester Hills, Mich., and Lois Kane of North Miami Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pearl Waszczak Kokoska

Mrs. Kokoska, 85, of East Brunswick, died April 7 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, Eugene J., died in 1988. Surviving are a sister, Sophie Galinski of South River; two brothers, Edward Waszczak of Orlando, Fla., and John Waszczak of Clinton, Fla.; nieces; and a great-niece. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.

Arlene Weston Kolbasowski

Mrs. Kolbasowski, 75, of Spotswood, died April 6 at home. Her husband, John Kolbasowski, died in 1986. Surviving are seven sons, John of the Somerset section of Franklin, Joseph of Milltown, James of Raleigh, N.C., Michael and Alexander, both of Spotswood, Charles of Las Vegas, Nev., and Francis of Helmetta; five daughters, Arlene Reese of Huntersville, N.C., June Snyder of Raleigh, Irene Leighton and Margaret Tierney, both of Spotswood, and Teresa Dunlop of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Elizabeth Marie Pike Pekurney

Mrs. Pekurney, 83, of East Brunswick, died April 11 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, William, died in 1976. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, William and Emily Pekurney of Spotswood and Robert John Pekurney of Highland Park; and two granddaughters. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.

Charles W. Staump

Mr. Staump, 94, of East Brunswick, died April 6 in Summerhill Nursing Home, East Brunswick. He was a heavy equipment operator with the Middlesex County Road Department, Edison, for 25 years, retiring in 1982. His wife, Helen, died in 1999. Surviving are a daughter, Marlene LaBarbera of Spotswood; a brother, Edward Staump of Flemington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
