True community spirit displayed at PBA Easter Egg Hunt

The East Brunswick Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local No. 145 held its annual Easter Egg Hunt at Hammarskjold School, East Brunswick, on Sunday, April 9. This event was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 8, but it was switched to the advertised rain date due to inclement weather.

I am writing to acknowledge the hard work and community dedication that was shown by the members of PBA Local No. 145 and to also express our sincere appreciation to those who attended the egg hunt and enjoyed the day. Annually, the East Brunswick PBA finances, organizes and runs this great event with numerous hours volunteered by our members in order to make it a success. This year’s committee was chaired by Jason Haykel, and he was helped by Michael Tota and several other members.

We were disappointed to learn about a miscommunication that stated the event was scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., instead of 11 a.m., which unfortunately resulted in guests showing up after the eggs were collected from the fields. Although this was disappointing, it was impressive to witness our members, along with many of those in attendance, giving away Easter eggs from their own baskets, as well as extra prizes, to the guests who were arriving late. This was a fine example of the true community spirit and giving nature that we have in East Brunswick.

While our members offered apologies to these guests, as I do here, it is important to recognize that this event is done voluntarily, by the good nature of the members of our association, and with great support from our community. I hope that all those who were upset on that Sunday morning now realize that the PBA always strives to do what is best for our community. This Easter Egg Hunt is one of the many community programs that we either run or support as an organization, and we strive to make all of our events run as smoothly as possible.
