Marlboro High School’s Scott Cohen, who has been one of the Freehold Regional District’s top distance runners during his scholastic career, will continue his running in college at the University of Tampa (Fla.) The Mustang senior signed his National Letter of Intent to Tampa last week.

Cohen has earned All-District honors in cross country and runs the 1,600 and 3,200 meters on the track.

Marlboro’s Carly Miller, a sophomore at Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, N.Y.), will embark on the bike ride of her life, 3,800 miles from Seattle, Washington to Washington, D.C., in 10 weeks. Miller is participating in Bike Aid, a program through Global Exchange, a nonprofit international human rights and economic rights organization, dedicated to promoting social justice around the world since 1988. Each rider in the event is asked to raise $3,800.

The money raised will contribute to the communities that house and feed the riders along the route and also to scholarship funds to enable low-income riders form Africa, Asia and the Americas to participate in the cycling event.

Miller’s fundraiser is tied to her small business venture: Earthspirit Yoga Bags. She has hand-crafted and sold her unique style of yoga mat carriers at local yoga studios for the past five years. She is offering a free bag with every donation of $100.
