The New Jersey Economic Development Authority will offer a workshop for nonprofits May 5 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The free workshop will be at the Technology Centre of New Jersey, 675 Route 1, North Brunswick. Patrick G. Comune, North Brunswick, and William Papa, Edison, were recently promoted from officers to sergeants at the Essex County Department of Corrections. Comune has been with the department 20 years, and is the recipient of a shift commendation, and Union Dedication Award from PBA Local No. 157. He is pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Middlesex County College. He has been married since 2004.

Papa is a 19-year member of the department, and was assigned for five years as the chief ID officer. He received his associate’s degree in criminal justice at Union County College. He and his wife, Kathy, have four children.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and its Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, New Brunswick, have received a $5 million gift from Bristol-Myers Squibb to be used to fund new centers for treatment of pediatric obesity, AIDS and rheumatic disease. The gift will create three new centers: The Bristol-Myers Squibb Pediatric Metabolism Center, Center for Pediatric Immunology and Infectious Disease, and Center for Children with Rheumatic Diseases.

AARP New Jersey will present a consumer issues forum April 28 at 9 a.m. at the South Brunswick Senior Center, 540 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick; and May 26 at 9 a.m. at 97 Sunfield Ave., Edison. The forum will feature information on the new Identity Theft Prevention Act, a panel discussion with AARP and Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, and a free box lunch and gift bags.
