West Windsor Arts Council to join in effort

WEST WINDSOR — Set to launch its third season May 20, the West Windsor Community Farmers’ Market is continuing to thrive as it expands a partnership with the West Windsor Arts Council and adds new vendors.
"We’re both West Windsor community groups that are of like mind," said Beth Feehan, who founded the market with Mireille Delman. The goal of both groups is "to make our community a better place to live," she said.
The arts council’s participation will add another dimension to the market, she noted. While adults do their shopping, there will also be plenty of distractions for children.
"It makes the whole experience more fulfilling," Ms. Feehan said.
The market’s mission is to bring residents a sampling of locally developed, farm-based fresh products from about a dozen farms in the area. It recalls the farming heritage of a township where potato, soy and vegetable farming were the cornerstone of the economy.
Shoppers at the market can find everything from fruit, vegetables and flowers to meat, pot pies and artisan bread.
Two vendors joining the market this season include Paradise Hill Farm of Vincentown, which offers pesticide-free heirloom vegetables and jams, and Silver Forge Farm of Manalapan, selling specialty produce.
Mamita’s Gourmet of Cranbury will also participate in the market, offering cookies, coffee, truffles and chocolates.
The market also features non-food vendors selling hand-crafted gifts.
The season’s main events are Heritage Day on June 10 and Autumn Fest on Oct. 14.
Cooking demonstrations are scheduled for May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16 and Oct. 21.
Kids’ events are set for June 3, July 8, Aug. 5 and Sept. 2.
Wellness events will take place June 24, July 22, Aug. 26 and Sept. 23.
In addition to monthly events hosted by the West Windsor Arts Council, special art events are scheduled for July 29 and Sept. 30. The arts council is coordinating a "Drop In And Draw" event for the market’s opening day, and clay formations will be the theme for June 10.
The market, located in the southbound Vaughn Drive parking lot of the Princeton Junction train station, is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
