Lorraine DeGardnuer, North Brunswick, has received an Essex County April Teamwork Award in recognition of her hard work, dedication and willingness to provide quality service. DeGardnuer is an office automation specialist in the information technology unit at Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and has been a county employee more than 20 years. She is also the founder of “ECPO University,” a training program to meet the computer training needs of the office. DeGardnuer teachers tap and jazz at a dance studio, as well as a special dance class for mentally challenged women.

Bill Hlubik of Rutgers Cooperative Research & Extension, and Middlesex County’s Agricultural Agent, and his team of collaborators have won first place in the National Association of County Agricultural Agents annual communications awards video category. The award was received for an episode of “If Plants Could Talk,” which features a trip to the Longwood Gardens, Pa. The entry was judged the national winner out of a group of 12 national finalists. National winners receive $500 awards. Hlubik’s show has been running for 6 years on NJN Public Television and is the only show on gardening in New Jersey that can be viewed statewide. The next episode will be June 17 at 1 p.m.

Elizabeth E. Hance, president and CEO at Magyar Bank, New Brunswick, has received the Community Leaders of Distinction Award from the Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes individuals and corporations that represent the spirit of community involvement throughout the region. Hance is involved in several local organizations, and is on the board of trustees at United Way of Central New Jersey. Magyar Bank operates branch locations in New Brunswick, North Brunswick and South Brunswick.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), New Brunswick, has begun using Birmingham Hip Resurfacing system, a bone-conserving alternative to total hip replacement surgery. Dr. David Harwood, attending orthopedic surgeon at RWJUH is one of approximately 50 surgeons nationwide to perform the procedure intended for patients suffering from hip pain due to osteoarthritis, dysplasia or avascular necrosis..

Donna Boyd, West Keansburg section of Hazlet, was recognized for achieving the highest sales in the month of April as a part-time consultant for the Chamonix Home Party and Direct Sales Division, Edison.
