Stephanie Lynn Christopher

Ms. Christopher, 33, of Howell, died May 28 at University Hospital, Newark. She was born in Long Branch and had lived in Lindenwold for 12 years before returning to the Freehold area. Ms. Christopher was a lieutenant in the federal Department of Corrections at Fort Dix. She was a 1990 graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough, and had served in the U.S. Army from 1991 to 1993. She was predeceased by a brother, Keith Huebsch, in 1990. Ms. Christopher is survived by her mother, Susan Shea Louk of Freehold; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Holly Huebsch of Montpelier, Va.; a sister, Jennifer Horton of Howell; a sister-in-law, Tracy Huebsch; three nieces and two nephews. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. James R. Barkalow

Mr. Barkalow, 78, of Cream Ridge, Plumsted Township, died June 1 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mr. Barkalow was born in Freehold and was raised by his great-aunt, Mary Jones McNinnie. He resided in Freehold for most of his life before moving to Delaware. He moved to Cream Ridge in 1997. Mr. Barkalow was a maintenance supervisor for the Nestle Co,, Freehold, where he was employed for 25 years before his retirement in 1987. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold. He was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption, New Egypt. A son, Michael J. Barkalow, died in 2005. Mr. Barkalow is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Sweeney Barkalow; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sharon Barkalow, Daniel and Kathy Barkalow, and David and Jane Barkalow; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Richard Kalinauskas, and Colleen and Edward Doody; and 12 grandchildren. American Legion services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Funeral services were held at the Brig. Gen. William C. Donald L. Rechtenbaugh

Mr. Rechtenbaugh, 67, of Freehold Township, died June 1 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born and raised in Canistota, S.D., he settled in Freehold Township in 1965. He was a systems engineer at AT&T, Bell Labs, Holmdel, for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Mr. Rechtenbaugh was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, where he served on the Building and Maintenance Committee, participated in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program, and taught in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a Boy Scout leader in Freehold Township and was a former president of the Homeowners Association in Longview, Freehold Township. Mr. Rechtenbaugh was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, James and George Rechtenbaugh. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Evelyn; three sons, Don Lee Rechtenbaugh of Freehold, Dominic Rechtenbaugh of Toms River, and Glenn Rechtenbaugh of Middlesex; three daughters, Diane Dragone of Lincroft, Linda Landis of Highland Park, and Lori Guerrero of Farmingdale; a brother, Herb Rechtenbaugh of Hartford, S.D.; a sister, Margaret Huber of Marion, S.D.; and 11 grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by burial at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro. Virginia White

Mrs. White, 87, of Freehold, died June 6 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Louisburg, N.C., and had resided in Freehold for the past 66 years. Mrs. White was a certified nurse’s aide at the Geraldine L. Thompson Medical Home, Wall Township. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church, Neptune Township, where she was a mother of the church, deaconess, and member of the Willing Workers. She was also a founding member of the Concerned Citizens of Freehold and NAACP Chapter of Freehold. She was predeceased by two sons, William Hilliard Jr. and Jesse L. White; a daughter, Samora Peace; and two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. White is survived by six sons, Albert and Jack White, both of North Carolina, Fred and Eugene White, of Freehold, Sylvester White of Neptune, and Paul White of Jackson; three daughters, Dorothy and Phyllis White and Shakeera Moss, all of Freehold; a sister, Mary Yarbrough of North Carolina; 36 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three goddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Esther Cammeyer

Mrs. Cammeyer, 88, of Manalapan, died June 8. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she resided for 78 years before retiring to Covered Bridge in Manalapan. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Cammeyer worked at P.S. 135 in East Flatbush, N.Y. She also did volunteer work for the Hebrew Educational Society and Congregation Beth Tikvah. After her move to New Jersey, she volunteered for the Covered Bridge Chapter of Women’s American ORT and the Senior Nutrition Program at Marlboro Jewish Center. She was a member of the Paragon Club and a founding member of the Kaplan Family Circle. Mrs. Cammeyer was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Cammeyer, in 1976; and a brother, David Kaplan. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Sherman and Ronnie Cammeyer of Jackson Township and Lake Worth, Fla., and Russell and Sherry Cammeyer of Marlboro; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. David F. Marsh

Mr. Marsh, 78, of Cream Ridge, died June 8 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Bristol, Pa., he had been a resident of Cream Ridge for 36 years. Before his retirement, Mr. Marsh was employed at Trenton Sheet Metal for 28 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and was a private pilot, known as “Topgun.” He was also a NASCAR modified stock car driver. Mr. Marsh was predeceased by a brother, William. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda; a daughter and son-in-law, Danalyn and Timothy Byrne of New Egypt; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Cindy Marsh of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Dot Marsh of Hamilton, and Richard and Teri Marsh of Las Vegas; his mother-in-law, Marian Gaum of Waretown; a brother- and sister-in-law, Ryan and Sandy Gaum of Cream Ridge; five grandchildren; six nieces; one nephew; and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown, with the Rev. Merton Steelman officiating. Interment followed at Emley’s Hill Cemetery, Cream Ridge. John F. Conroy Sr.

Mr. Conroy, 76, of Keyport, died June 11 at home. Born in Union Beach, he resided there before moving to Keyport in 1968. Mr. Conroy was a tool and die maker for Silverline Windows, North Brunswick. He previously was employed at LaVoie Laboratories in Morganville, Ronnie Packaging in Dunellen, the Hyatt-Clark in Union, and served as chief of police in Union Beach. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Conroy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances Auriemma Conroy; four sons and two daughters-in-law, John Conroy of Aberdeen, James and Terri Conroy of Howell, Edward and Patti Conroy of Matawan, and William Conroy of Keansburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Rich Batdorf of Tinton Falls, and Sharon and Dr. Joseph Cicenia of Hoboken; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Fitzpatrick of Matawan; a brother, Edward Conroy of Petaluma, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, with interment in the church’s cemetery. Arrangements were by the Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Mark Fallon

Mr. Fallon, 44, of Atlantic Highlands, died June 11 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, he resided in the Middletown area most of his life before moving to Atlantic Highlands. Mr. Fallon was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 19 years, most recently at the Middletown branch. Prior to that, he was a manager at two local restaurants. He is survived by his wife, Tami Eremus Fallon; two sons, Mark and Dylan; his mother, Marguerite Fallon; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Sharon Fallon, and James and Roseanne Fallon, all of Jackson, and Robert and Ellen Fallon of Middletown; three sisters, Maureen Fallon and Patricia Fallon, both of Middletown, and Elisabeth Fallon of Holmdel; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at Fair View Cemetery, both in Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.

George W. Garo

Mr. Garo, 77, of Howell, died June 13 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Thune, Switzerland, he came to the United States in 1954, settling in the Tottenville section of Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Howell in 1964. Before his retirement, Mr. Garo was a structural safety engineer for Public Service Mutual of New York for more than 33 years. He was a veteran of the Grenadier Swiss Army. He received his degree in engineering from New York University, New York City. Mr. Garo was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Chapter 182 of New Jersey. He had been a charter member of the Howell Police Department since before the formation of the full-time Howell police force, and was a part-time Class II police officer for the department. He was a past master mason at the Humboldt Lodge No. 512 Free & Accepted Masons, New York, and a member of the Olive Branch No. 16 Lodge, Freehold, and a past patron of the Molly Pitcher Lodge Chapter 198 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the BMW Motorcycle Club Worldwide and a member of the Blue Knits of New Jersey. Mr. Garo is survived by his wife, Tania Solenko Garo; a daughter, Randy Lee Garo of Tucson, Ariz.; adopted children Natasha and George Brick of Jackson; adopted grandchildren Walter and Elena Brick of Jackson; many cousins in Switzerland; and good friend Robert Browne of Howell. The funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Robert F. Schear Sr.

Mr. Schear, 75, of Howell, died June 14 at the Rose Garden Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Toms River. Born in Elizabeth, he had been a resident of Howell for the past 55 years. Mr. Schear owned and operated Tel-Appli, Neptune, until his retirement in 1980, after which he was a service technician in Freehold for 3M. During his retirement, he also delivered auto parts for Norwood Auto Parts Distribution, Lakewood. He was a communicant of St. Veronica Roman Catholic Church, Howell. Mr. Schear was predeceased by his wife, Nina, in 1982; and two brothers, Joseph and Carl Schear. He is survived by his former wife, Regina Schear of Howell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Cathy Schear of Howell, and Paul and Kathy Schear of Bayville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kevin and Suzanne Wood of Toms River; two brothers, Gerard Schear of Lakewood and Thomas Schear of Milford, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 10 nephews; and six nieces. The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Veronica Church, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown, Burlington County. Philip D. Carpe

Mr. Carpe, 72, of Jackson, died May 30 at William B. Kessler Memorial Hospital, Hammonton. Born in East Windsor, he had lived in the Clarksburg section of Millstone and in Howell before moving to Jackson in 1998. Before his retirement in 1997, Mr. Carpe was a research chemist at Block Drug Co., Jersey City. Prior to that, he was a research chemist at Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, and Carter-Wallace, Cranbury. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Mr. Carpe is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David K. and Elizabeth Carpe of Newton, and Andrew F. and Margaret Carpe of Hammonton; a daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Donald Hyatt of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a sister, Judy Housekeeper of Lawrenceville; seven grandchildren; and his companion, Ann Whatley of Jackson. A memorial service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, with the Rev. Harvey Kelley officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Brig. Gen. William C. William F. Dempsey

Mr. Dempsey, 91, of Toms River, died June 4 at Kensington Manor, Toms River. Born in New York City, he had resided in Jersey City and Keyport before moving to Toms River five years ago. Before his retirement, Mr. Dempsey was a maintenance worker for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at Newark International Airport. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Largey-Nugent Dempsey; a son, Michael Nugent of Toms River; a daughter, Patricia Acampora of Keyport; two sisters, Margaret Chirelli of Jackson and Helen Walenta of Marlboro; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Arrangements were by the Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Joseph Davino

Mr. Davino, 80, of Monroe, died June 8 in The Elms of Cranbury. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed as a foreman with Buck Brothers Construction Co., East Brunswick, where he worked for 20 years. Surviving are his wife, Sophie Betlow Davino; a son, Joseph of Jamesburg; a daughter, Sue Ann Medley of Jackson; two brothers, Felix of Keyport and Louis of Monroe; three sisters, Rosie Siconilfi of Cranbury, Carmella Scotto of Ithaca, N.Y., and Sue Frank of Totowa; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. James Church, Jamesburg. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick.

Sue Carol Stalgaitis

Mrs. Stalgaitis, 87, of Whiting, died June 15 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Union, she had lived in Cliffside Park, Marlboro and Bayville, as well as in Onancock, Va., before moving to Whiting in 1994. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Stalgaitis was predeceased in 1994 by her husband, Joseph, and in 2005 by a son, James. Surviving are a daughter, Lorraine Smith of Howell; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan, where interment followed. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
