Citizen police academy opens class sign-ups

Monmouth County Sheriff Joseph W. Oxley announced that applications are now being accepted for enrollment in the 12th Annual Citizen Police Academy held at the Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold Township.

Citizen Police Academy is a 25-hour block of instruction designed to give attendees an overview of law enforcement in Monmouth County. It features presentations by municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The course consists of 10 sessions on consecutive Wednesdays, 7-9:30 p.m., at the county police academy. Classes begin on Sept. 6 with graduation scheduled for Nov. 8.

Applications are available to Monmouth County residents age 21 or older who have no criminal record. The deadline for applying is Aug. 18. Enrollment is limited. There is no fee for the course, but attendees must attend all 10 sessions for successful completion of the program.
