Darren Gelber, a shareholder at the Woodbridge-based law firm of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer – with other offices in Eatontown and New York City – has been named to the New Jersey Law Journal’s “40 under 40” list, a designation handed out annually to 40 select attorneys under the age of 40. Gelber will be featured in a special edition of the magazine that was due to be published on July 24.

Gelber, who concentrates his practice in both criminal and civil rights law, serves as co-chair of the Criminal Law/Civil Rights Team. Designated by the N.J. Supreme Court as a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney, he represents clients in all phases of criminal proceedings as well as those with appellate matters.

A frequent guest commentator on “Court TV,” he is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.

He is a former prosecutor with experience in New York criminal practice, and was appointed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey to be a member of the Supreme Court Committee on Women in the Courts.

He is also a member and trustee of the Middlesex Bar Association; a member of the Monmouth County Bar Association and the N.J. State Bar Association, through which he serves on the Criminal Practice Committee; and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey.

In addition, earlier in the year he was co-recipient of the Middlesex County Bar Association’s Criminal Trial Attorney of the Year Award.

Sovereign Bank, Middletown, announced that Geoffrey W. Griffing has joined the branch as assistant vice president, community banking manager. He manages the bank’s community banking office and is responsible for all business and team member development.

Prior to joining Sovereign, Griffing, a resident of Metuchen, was assistant vice president, branch manager at Commerce Bank in Hazlet, and was honored with the 2005 Volunteer of the Year Award by Hazlet Township for participation in numerous township events. Griffing received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Binghamton University, State University of New York, Binghamton.

The Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce and The College of New Jersey Small Business Development Center will present “Good Morning Middlesex” Aug. 10 at Berkeley College, 430 Rahway Ave., Woodbridge.
