Teams are being sought for the Middlesex County Parks and Recreation Department’s fall slo-pitch softball leagues. Men’s single- and doubleheader-game leagues and women’s single-game leagues begin play this month. Rosters and payments are now being accepted. Up to five team members may be noncounty residents. Deadline for roster payment is Aug. 15. Opening day is scheduled for late August, and games are scheduled throughout October and November, depending on rainouts and playoff schedules.

The men’s single-game league plays at 6:45 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and is limited to 16 teams. The men’s doubleheader game league starts at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with second games to follow immediately. This league is limited to eight teams.

All games are played at Thomas Edison Park in Edison or Warren Park in Woodbridge. Entrance fee is $330, with an additional $76 refundable forfeit fee. Umpire fees are $19 per team per game. Teams are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The ladies’ slo-pitch league games start at 10:30 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. Sundays at Warren Park. The entrance fee is $155, plus an additional $76 refundable forfeit fee. Umpire fees are $19 per team per game. Teams are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited to eight teams.

Old Bridge fall baseball is now accepting applications for the fall recreation season. All boys ages 8-16 are eligible to participate, new age as of 4/30/07. Old Bridge’s Stephanie Zotolli, a long distance runner for Rutgers University, has been named to the 2006 Big East Conference Academic All-Star Team.

The Old Bridge Jaguars U13 boys travel soccer team is looking for players for the fall/spring 2006-07 season. The Jaguars play in the Monmouth Ocean Soccer Association (MOSA) travel league and are in the National 3 flight. Birth dates between Aug. 1, 1993, and July 31, 1994 are eligible. The Morgan Magic girls travel fastpitch softball organization will be holding its first tryout for the 2007 season on Aug. 27 at Waterfront Park in South Amboy. The 14U team will try out from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., while the 16U team will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 16U roster spots will be limited, although all positions will be considered. Old Bridge’s Jillian Grant recently took second in the 200-meter hurdles at the AAU Nationals in Virginia. Grant, who will be an eighth-grader at Carl Sandburg Middle School in the fall, took second in a time of 28.58, while also placing 17th in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:00.68, and 15th in the long jump, reaching a distance of 14-07.75.

Grant, whose older sister Brittany Gibbs recently graduated after a stellar career at Old Bridge High School, also competes for the Supersonics track team out of New Brunswick.
