The New Jersey State Bar Foundation will present a public seminar on divorce law Nov. 2. Speakers will be attorneys Amy Zylman Shimalla and Jerry S. D’Aniello. “Everything You Always Wanted to Ask About Special Education: Parents’ & Schools’ Rights and Responsibilities” will be held Nov. 15. Speakers include attorneys Rebecca K. Spar, Michaelene Loughlin, and David Giles. A seminar on buying and selling a home will be held Dec. 5. Speakers will be Stanley Fink and Jeffrey Apell, both well versed in real estate law. The New Jersey Mental Health Institute Inc., Mercerville, will present a free conference, “Improving Treatment Quality Through Cultural Competence,” Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Edison Hotel, Raritan Center. Keynote speaker will be Altha J. Stewart, M.D., president of the American Psychiatric Foundation. There will also be workshops that address cultural and related mental health issues for various minority groups, elderly immigrants and refugees, and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender clients. Up to four clinical continuing education units will be available, pending approval from the New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners.
