Helen E. Fischler Pitonak

Mrs. Pitonak, 86, of Keyport, died Oct. 18 at home. Born in Keyport, she was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Pitonak was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, John Pitonak, in 1978; and a sister, Ann Kulas, in 2006. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Frank Dwyer of Warren; a sister, Barbara Basko of Jackson; two brothers, Joseph Fischler and Frank Fischler, both of Keyport; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, followed by interment at the church’s cemetery. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Michael Gatto

Mr. Gatto, 50, of the Perrineville section of Millstone, died Oct. 20, 2006, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Marlboro before moving to Perrineville 11 years ago. He was a self-employed entrepreneur. He was also a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Perrineville. Mr. Gatto was predeceased by two brothers, Phillip and Richard. Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Georgette; four children, Domenic, Maria, Phillip and Gabrielle, all at home; his parents, Domenic and Anne Gatto of Perrineville; two brothers, Domenic of Monroe and Patrick of Marlboro; and two sisters, Mary of Perrineville and Joanne of Marlboro. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Joseph’s Church, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Edward P. Daly

Mr. Daly, 82, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Oct. 18 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Newark, he resided there before moving to Cliffwood Beach in 1951. Mr. Daly was a physical science technician and was awarded several patents while employed at Fort Monmouth for 32 years, retiring in 1979. Following retirement, he drove a school bus for Wooley’s Buys Co. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Mr. Daly was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Daly and Frederick Daly. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Walbroel Daly; three daughters, Mary Bader of Rumson, Joan West of West Long Branch, and Patricia Daly of Matawan; two sons, Edward R. Daly of the Avenel section of Woodbridge, and Richard J. Daly of Howell; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Church, followed by entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Ingardi Valanzano

Mrs. Valanzano, 90, of South Boston, Va., died Sept. 26 at Woodview Nursing Home, South Boston. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there, Matawan, and Toms River, prior to moving to South Boston. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Carmine A. Valanzano; and a daughter, Mary Porretta. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Victoria Valanzano of Long Island, N.Y.; a daughter, Jean Erb of Randolph, Va.; a sister, Jennifer DiPeri; a son-in-law, Manny Porretta of Jackson; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Entombment was at the church’s cemetery. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Essie Mae Maples

Mrs. Maples, 86, of Freehold, died Sept. 30, 2006, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. A lifelong resident of Monmouth County, she had resided in the Pergolaville section of Manalapan before moving to Freehold. Mrs. Maples was employed in many different fields, retiring in 1991 from the housekeeping department of the John L. Montgomery Care Center, Freehold Township. She is survived by two daughters, Ethel L. Maples of Freehold and Margaret A. Marlow of Lakewood; seven sons, Joseph Maples of Detroit, Harry Maples of New Brunswick, Robert Maples of Farmingdale, Nathaniel Maples of Eatontown, Frank Maples of Piscataway, Edward Maples of Freehold, and Gregory Maples of Brooklyn, N.Y. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with Bishop Dr. Charles Simmons officiating. Interment followed at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.
