Church to host special memorial service Nov. 4

Hope Lutheran Church, 211 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township, will offer a special memorial service on All Saints’ Day, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. for all who have been bereaved of loved ones during the past year or longer. The service will be led by Robert Barton, a member of the church who serves as a voluntary bereavement counselor and has been a hospital, long-term health care facility and hospice chaplain. The service will celebrate the lives and memories of those lost with a symbolic wreath of remembrances, a candle-lighting ceremony, readings, hymns and prayers. All who attend are also invited to a luncheon at noon. Reservations by calling (732) 462-7545 are helpful.

Mayor’s Art Council

plans special event

The Manalapan Mayor’s Art Council (MAC) will sponsor a special event Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Gary Michaels Fine Jewelry, 55 Route 9 south, Manalapan.

The event is being hosted by Gary Michaels in conjunction with its annual holiday party. It will include performances by the Manalapan Chamber Music Ensemble under the direction of Chiu-Tze Lin. The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served. A presentation of the MAC’s new logo will also highlight the evening.

Humanitarian of Year

The Freehold Township Human Rela-tions Council will present a Humanitar-ian of the Year award to an area high school student. The organization will recognize a high school student who demonstrates behaviors consistent with its mission to foster and promote good will, cooperation and conciliation among all the people of Freehold Township.

A proclamation presented by the mayor and a $1,000 award (sponsored by The Noontime Optimist Club of Free-hold) will be presented to the successful candidate in June.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

+ Be a legal Freehold Township resident.

+ Be either a junior or senior in high school.

+ Have a minimum grade-point average of 2.5.

+ Submit a brief, personal statement that reflects the council’s objectives.

+ Have two letters of recommendation from a teacher, principal, community representative or clergy to support award criteria, with activities that may include, but not restricted to, school, community or religious projects.

+Students must obtain an application by writing to the address listed below, fill out an application, attach transcript, personal statement and letters of recommendation, and send completed forms to the address below. The committee must receive all paperwork by March 15.
