Books, bags, mags support band

The Manalapan High School Music Parents Association is sponsoring several fundraising events to help support the band. Proceeds will help offset the cost of the band’s trip to the Washington, D.C., Music Festival in April.

Band parents will be offering free gift-wrapping of presents at Barnes & Noble, 3981 Route 9, Freehold Township, on Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Throughout that day, when a customer shows a pre-printed voucher from the Manalapan High School Marching Band to a cashier at Barnes & Noble, the store will donate a percentage of the customer’s order to the band.

Vouchers are available from band parents and students or upon request at the front desk of the store. Vouchers may also be downloaded from the Web site www.geocities.com/manalapanband/marchingbraves.

Band members will also be offering their services to customers who want help bagging groceries at the Manalapan Foodtown, Route 9 and Tennent Road, on Feb. 3 and 4.

A discounted magazine subscription fundraiser is also available on an ongoing basis through American Publishers Hearst. Magazine subscriptions may be ordered for the first time or existing subscriptions may be renewed. Both options are offered at discounted rates that reflect a savings of up to 85 percent off the standard rate for each magazine purchase.

Those interested can renew or purchase subscriptions from band students or online by visiting the Internet Web site www.APHEARST.COM and entering code WC1017 for the Manalapan High School band.

In addition, the band is hosting this year’s holiday music festival Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Manalapan High School, Church Lane, Manalapan. The show will feature performances by the concert band, orchestra and choir, and drama students. Admission is $5.

Several other fundraisers are being planned. For further information call (732) 972-5427.
