Jean Jansen

Mrs. Jansen, 83, of Howell, died Dec. 11, 2006, at Atlantic Coast Rehabilitation & Health Care, Lakewood. Born in Puxico, Mo., she had lived in Union Beach and Laurence Harbor before moving to Howell in 1995. She was a homemaker and a former member of a ladies’ auxiliary in Union Beach. Mrs. Jansen was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, Henry. Surviving are a son, Larry Fowler of Albrightsville, Pa.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and John Downey of Port Richey, Fla., and Linda and David Medel of Howell; a sister, Irene Bender of Lakehurst; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Eleanor Lawrence

Mrs. Lawrence, 63, of Jackson, died Dec. 6, 2006, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Newark, she had resided in Jackson for the past four years. She was employed by Ocean County’s finance department, Toms River, for more than 10 years. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth W. and Allison Lawrence of Auburndale, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dawn and Russell Taylor of the Clarksburg section of Millstone, and Kristin N. Bartlow of Seaside Heights; two sisters, Shirley Wallace of Blairstown and Dorothy Stockinger of Florida; three grandchildren; and her friend and former husband, James A. Lawrence. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with the Rev. Dr. J. Francis Watson, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Freehold, officiating. Patrick Joseph Shaffery

Mr. Shaffery, 73, of Oceanport, died Nov. 24, 2006, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he resided in Oceanport for 43 years. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Little Silver, where he was employed 35 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a communicant of the Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. He was a member of the Port-au-Peck Fire Company, Oceanport, an exempt fireman, and ex-chief of the Oceanport Fire Department. He was also a charter member of the Oceanport Waterways Committee. He enjoyed woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Arthur and Bernard Shaffery; a sister, Loretta Becker; and a granddaughter, Alexa. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wilhelmina Hessels Shaffery; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Patrick Shaffery, and Daniel and Stephanie Shaffery, all of Oceanport, and Mark and Doreen Shaffery of Howell; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Eleanor Shaffery of Middletown; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Church of the Precious Blood. Interment was at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Angelina Dellano

Mrs. Dellano, 86, of Jackson, died Dec. 7, 2006, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was born in North Bergen, where she spent most of her life before moving to Freehold Township in 1986. She had been a resident of King James Nursing Home, Middletown, at the time of her death. Prior to retiring in 1970, Mrs. Dellano was a seamstress for Dan’s Embroidery Service, Fairview. She was predeceased in 1998 by her husband, Archie. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Vincent Pierro of Jackson, and Janet and Joseph Potente of North Bergen; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.
