Plumsted committee welcomes newcomers

PLUMSTED – The Township Committee’s first meeting of 2007 began with state Assemblyman Joseph Malone (R-Ocean, Monmouth, Mercer and Burlington) officiating the oaths of office to newly elected committeemen Mike McCue and Eric Sorchik.

McCue and Sorchik will serve three-year terms on the governing body.

The committee then elected Commit-teeman Ken Francis as the new deputy mayor and re-elected Committeeman Ron Dancer as mayor.

Dancer said Francis was unable to attend the reorganization meeting on Jan. 2 due to medical reasons. He is expected to resume his duties later this month.

The new committeemen were assigned as liaisons to municipal departments. Among McCue’s assignments will be liaison to the Board of Education, Arts Council, Community Events, Main Street and Neighborhood Preservation Programs, and Land Preservation programs.

Sorchik’s department liaison appoint-ments include Recreation and Parks, Emergency Management, Public Safety, and Planning/Land Use Board.

Committeewoman Ada Roberts joins Dancer, Francis, McCue and Sorchik on the governing body.

In other business, Dancer said that in preparation for the sixth annual talent show sponsored by the Plumsted Arts Council, auditions will be held on Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. to Noon at the New Egypt High School auditorium.

This is a talent show, not a competition, and adults or children from the fourth grade and higher are encouraged to audition to be listed in the talent show program, scheduled for Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.

The Township Committee is advertis-ing to employ an executive director for the New Egypt Main Street Program.

Sharon Gano, who was previously the full-time Main Street Program executive director, requested a part-time status to train a new executive director and assist in the transition due to family commitments, according to Dancer.

Anyone interested in the position may contact Gano at (609) 758-6990 for further information and may submit a letter of interest with resume to the township clerk’s office.

Dancer announced that there has been a change in Plumsted’s public meeting schedule. In 2007, the Township Committee will be meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at 8 p.m. For the months that have two meetings scheduled, the committee will also meet on the third Wednesday. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Township Committee will be Feb. 7.
