Gary J. Mackiewicz, 49, of Monroe, died Monday, Jan. 15, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in Bayonne, he lived in Monroe since 1964. He currently held the position of production technician, working for Sunny Delight Beverages Co. in Dayton for the past 25 years. Over the course of 12 years, he coached his kids, among others, for the Monroe Township Recreation Baseball, Softball and Pop Warner Football associations as well as coaching basketball for the Immaculate Conception Youth Organization. He played softball in the Monroe Township Men’s League for 15 years, and was an avid fisherman.
His parents, Edmund and Josephine (Lucey) Mackiewicz; and his sister, Patricia Hosey, are deceased. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Janet, of Monroe; his in-laws, Charles and Joan Ingulli of Whiting; his sons, Gary J. Jr. and Brian T., of Monroe; his daughter, Kimberly A. Mackiewicz of Honolulu; his brothers, Edmund and his wife, Sylvia, of Monroe and Kevin of Millstone; his sister, Carol Siegel, of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 18, at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Township. Interment followed at Spotswood Reformed Church Cemetery, Spotswood. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Township Recreation Department or the American Cancer Society.
