+ Night at the Oscars Dinner, sponsored by the Chris Cooper Scholarship Fund, 7 p.m. to midnight, at the Pines Manor, Edison. Fund is named in honor of Cooper, a 1999 Old Bridge High School (OBHS) graduate who pitched for the high school baseball team and died as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 2003. Proceeds help an eligible OBHS boys baseball player and girls softball player to attend college. Tickets cost $90 per person in advance, $100 at the door. + Bargain Book and Media Sale, sponsored by the East Brunswick Friends of the Library, 7-9:30 p.m. on March 19, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. March 20-24, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 25, in the J.C. Penney court at Brunswick Square Mall, Route 18, East Brunswick. Gently used hardcover and paperback books, audiobooks, video games, computer software, collectors items, DVDs and CDs, all at discounted prices. A $1 admission charge on the first night only; current Friends members admitted free of charge. In the interest of safety, children under 8 years of age should not attend on opening night. The East Brunswick Library Puppeteers will offer free puppet shows for youngsters at 7 and 7:30 p.m. on March 21 and 22. Cash and checks only; credit cards not accepted.
