Earl Gray, a junior at the University of Maryland, ran the lead-off leg on the Terrapins’ 4×400 relay team that finished second at the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Gray, Jeremy Samuels, Kyle Rauser and Sean Lowe ran a 3:10.395 in finishing second to Clemson (3:09.895).

Gray, a graduate of Marlboro High School, turned in a personal best 21.48 for the 200 meters during the meet and anchored the Maryland 4×100 team to a ninth place.

At Marlboro, Gray was the area’s premier sprinter at the 100-200-400 meters. He won a state title his senior year in the 100-meter dash.

The following Freehold Township High School football players will be playing college football in the fall: defensive back Alan Frost and lineman Lamar Williams at Wilkes College (Pa.); linebacker Billy August, Kean University; place-kicker/punter John Hancock, Fairleigh Dickinson University; and linebacker Matt Porricelli, Susquehanna University (Pa.).

The Freehold Area Running Club (FARC) will be hosting the Inaugural Jack Kuhnert Scholarship 5K Race on Sunday at Michael Tighe Park starting at 10 a.m. Race day registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and the fee is $25. The race will be inside the confines of Tighe Park.

Proceeds from the race will aid the Jack Kuhnert Scholarship Fund for needy high school students. The scholarship is named in honor of the late head coach of the Freehold Borough boys basketball team.

On June 27, the Freehold Area Running Club’s Summer Race Series 5K at the Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Manalapan will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The races are held Wednesday evenings throughout the summer.
