‘Something Old, Something New’

The Friends of the Monmouth Museum will host “Something Old, Something New and a Sixpence in Her Shoe,” a luncheon and theatrical event to be held at the Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury Monday, June 6.

What were marriage preparations like in the days before the Wedding Channel, Bridezillas and million-dollar extravaganzas? Every generation has its customs and traditions, from clothes to food to superstitions.

Working with local actors, the staff and volunteers of the Monmouth Museum will examine how wedding celebrations and traditions have evolved over the past 250 years, from Colonial times through the present, with a special dramatic presentation.

Guests will have the opportunity to interact with brides from the past three centuries, view a beautiful display of gowns and shop at an exclusive boutique. Anyone who has planned, attended or starred in a wedding won’t want to miss this memorable event.

The elegant Shadowbrook will provide a buffet luncheon, topped off with a sumptuous Viennese dessert table.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. Tickets are $50 for museum members, $60 for nonmembers. Proceeds will support educational programs at the Monmouth Museum, which is located on the campus of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.
