Local skaters and bikers are ramping up for the grand opening of the South Brunswick Skate Park in Reichler Park on Saturday.
The township will kick off the event with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by poster and sticker giveaways by the Central Jersey Skate Shop of Edison, the sponsor for the opening.
The shop’s skaters will then give a skate demonstration at noon and a BMX bike demonstration at 2 p.m. There also will be performances by area guitarist Angel Vivaldi and by area band Sayrelin.
Yearly registration, which is free and includes a liability release, is required to use the facility and will be available at the event. Parents must sign the form for any user under age 18. Registration is open to anyone, including people who are not South Brunswick residents.
The 6,510-square-foot skate park, located in front of the Recycling Center and behind the South Brunswick Municipal Building, will be open for skating between events throughout the day as space allows.
The skate park will generally be open daily from 8 a.m. until dusk. Users must be at least 7 years old, and anyone under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. A helmet with a visible registration sticker is required, along with knee and elbow pads.
Registration forms are also available at the Community Center on New Road, at the South Brunswick Public Library, and in the clerk’s office at the Municipal Building. They also will soon be available on the township Web site at www.sbtnj.net.
