I am writing about an incident that touches, in part, on President Ulysses S. Grant and Long Branch. On or about Aug. 8, 1873, while summering at Long Branch, Grant received a delegation of Russian (originally German) Mennonites and Hutterites who had come to arrange for their entire communities to move to the United States.
I am looking for details regarding that visit along with general information about Grant in Long Branch that summer. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might know about this period in Long Branch’s history.
