Icelandic comedy-drama next up for film festival

The 25th annual Summer International Film Festival at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will continue on Aug. 7 with 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. screenings of the Icelandic comedy-drama “Noi.” The 2003 movie, which is rated PG-13, has a running time of 93 minutes.

The film tells the story of Noi, a 17-year-old boy who lives with his eccentric grandmother in a dreary small town on an isolated fjord. Noi’s usually absent father, the town taxi driver, likes to dress like Elvis and drinks a great deal. During a dark and endless winter, Noi’s ViewMaster and a pretty new gas-station attendant offer a possibility of escape.

All films in the library festival will be shown in their original languages, with English subtitles as needed. Admission is free of charge. Reservations are not required.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

• Aug. 14 – “Volver,” Spanish, 2006, 121 minutes, rated R.

The festival is sponsored by the Friends of the East Brunswick Public Library. Information services librarian Martha Hess will introduce each film. Call (732) 390-6767.
