DWI patrols beefed up

EAST BRUNSWICK – The township Department of Public Safety will participate in a federally funded program that targets driving while intoxicated violations.

The “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” program will be in operation statewide from Aug. 17 through Sept. 3. The program is funded through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

To facilitate the operation, additional saturation patrols will be maintained throughout the township with zero tolerance for all DWI violations, according to a press release from township police.

“The purpose of the program is to save lives, prevent injuries and reduce traffic accidents,” the release stated. “It is a goal of this program to raise the public’s awareness to the serious nature of driving while intoxicated and the potential consequences while working to eliminate the threat presented by intoxicated drivers through enforcement action. Simply stated, if you are found to be operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, you will be arrested.”
