HILLSBOROUGH Mary Borysewicz (Maria Jesionka) died Sept. 5.
She was born in Usznia, Tarnopol, Poland, now Ukraine, in 1919. After Russia invaded Eastern Poland in 1939, she and her family were forcibly deported by the Soviets to Siberia in 1940. In 1942 they were released from Soviet captivity, making their way from Siberia to southern portions of the USSR, now Kazakhstan, where they crossed the Caspian Sea to freedom in Iran. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1952.
Mrs. Borysewicz worked at RCA Solid State in Bridgewater for 25 years.
She joined the Polish Forces under British command (the Anders Army) in 1942, serving in the Middle East and Italy. She served in World War II.
Her husband, Walter Borysewicz, died in 1973; two sisters, Teresa Jesionka, died in 1940 and Cecylia Kowalski is deceased; and two brothers, Kazimierz Jesionka and Adam Jesionka are deceased.
Surviving are four sons, Richard of Hillsborough, Stanley of Little Egg Harbor, Henry of Larimore, N.D., and Michael of Colville, Wash.; three daughters, Teresa Hambel of Holiday, Fla., Liz Carluccio of Hackettstown, and Krystyna Borysewicz of Old Bridge; two sisters, Lucy Jankowski of Manville and Nina Sobolewski of Hillsborough; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 8 from Hillsborough funeral Home in Hillsborough, followed by a Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Manville. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough.
