Roosevelt School is hosting the second Manville Back to School carnival Saturday, and Principal Michael Magliacano is looking forward to it.
”I thought it was very positive last year,” he said. “To continue to build community spirit in the town, I think an event like this is a good event to do.”
The carnival will run from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. on the school grounds. In case of rain, the event will be held on Oct. 13 at the same location and time.
The carnival is being sponsored by the Roosevelt, Weston and Alexander Batcho Intermediate schools, which Mr. Magliacano notes brings students and teachers together from the various schools.
”You see them in a different light instead of seeing them in school every day,” he said.
The carnival was made possible with a $1,000 grant from the Manville Wal-Mart, for the second year.
Chairwoman Stephanie Cornelson noted the principals from three schools, Weston School Principal Don Frank, Mr. Magliacano and Alexander Batcho Intermediate School Principal Jim Brunn, will be volunteering their time to help out.
The carnival will include games of chance such as a baseball toss, “balloon buster,” ping pong fish bowl, basketball, ring toss, bean bag toss, duck pond, milk bottles, junior basketball, and a putting zone.
There are games for the preschool children for 50 cents and all the winners will receive a prize; all the other games are $1 each. The games will be operated by parents, school staff and high school students.
Other activities include a moonwalk, spin art, and candy art and face painting will be done once again by Manville High School student Stephanie Nerger.
There will be a DJ and food will be available to purchase. Volunteers will be cooking up hamburgers and hot dogs. Chips, water, soda and juice will also be available. Favorite carnival snacks of popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones can also be purchased for a small amount.
”We are going to have four different levels of prizes for the kids to win tickets and as many tickets they collect, they can choose a prize. We have backpacks and new spirit wear T-shirts as grand prizes,” Ms. Cornelson said.
Debbie Agans, president of the Roosevelt PTA, invited everyone to come to the carnival.
”We’re going to have a really good time and fun,” she said. “There is going to be a great DJ and we are all really excited about it.”
