Children’s author to appear at E.B. Library

Sally M. Walker, author of “Secrets of a Civil War Submarine: Solving the Mysteries of the H.L. Hunley” and other real-life adventure tales, will visit the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 25.

The program is open to students in grades 3 and up and to adults. Registration is required. Admission is free of charge.

The H.L. Hunley, the first submarine used to sink an enemy ship during the Civil War, remained hidden on the ocean floor for more than 130 years before divers came across the vessel in 1995. Walker’s book traces the voyages of the ship and the many obstacles scientists had to overcome to recover, excavate and conserve the discovery.

Walker, the author of many children’s nonfiction works combining science, adventure and history, will talk about how she came to research and write about the Hunley. She also will offer tips about the publishing process and will autograph copies of her books.
