Walter Samuel Quackenbush

Mr. Quackenbush, 80, of East Brunswick, formerly of Old Bridge and Freehold, died Aug. 18, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed as a chemical operator with E.I. DuPont, Parlin section of Sayreville, where he worked for 25 years. He was predeceased by his first wife, Iris Fenny Quackenbush. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Berardinelli Quackenbush; two daughters, Brenda Ruggiere of the Forked River of Lacey and Denise Herman of Tennessee; two sons, Robert Connolly, and his wife, Honda, of Aberdeen, and Patrick Connolly of California; three brothers, Ronald, Samuel and Edward Quackenbush; three sisters, Faye and Sharon Bergen and Beverly Papernick; and six grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Spotswood Funeral Home. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. Mary Dalke Forman

Mrs. Forman, 82, of Melbourne, Fla., died Sept. 22, 2007, at William Childs Hospice House, Palm Bay, Fla. She was born in Jamesburg and had resided in Florida for the past 32 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin F. Forman, in 1997. Surviving are a son, Edwin Forman III of Pennsboro, W.Va.; two daughters, Del Dubow and Cathie Manzi, both of Florida; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with the Rev. Gregory J. Pike, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Millstone, officiating. Marie C. Sturla

Mrs. Sturla, 80, of Freehold Township and Holiday, Fla., died Sept. 23, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Stirling, Morris County, and had lived in Bayonne before moving to Freehold Township. She had also lived in Florida for the past 20 years. Prior to retiring in 1982, Mrs. Sturla was a bank officer for Chemical Bank, Manhattan, N.Y., for most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. Mrs. Sturla is survived by a brother and sister-inlaw, Joseph and Carla of Greentown, Pa.; two nieces; four great-nieces and great-nephews; and close friend Karen Ensmenger of Freehold. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Christina B. Magliozzo

Mrs. Magliozzo, 85, of Howell, died Sept. 29, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she moved to Howell 22 years ago. Mrs. Magliozzo was a clerk at Fiduciary Trust Co. at the World Trade Center, New York City, until her retirement in 1988. She was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. She was also a volunteer at CentraState for the past 10 years, as well as a member of the Howell Women’s Club and Seniors First at The Villages in Howell. Surviving are her husband, James; two sons and daughters in-law, James S. and Dotty Magliozzo of Freehold Township, and Joseph T. and Joan Magliozzo of Hamilton Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Rosalind and John Santimauro of Staten Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by entombment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.

Harry Zajac

Mr. Zajac, 83, of Englishtown, died Sept. 30, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was born in Poland and had resided in Old Bridge for 20 years before moving to Englishtown almost 20 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1984, he was a welder. Mr. Zajac was predeceased in 1986 by his wife, Bernice, and in 1995 by a son, Howard. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Krisanne Zajac of Howell; a sister, Rifka Teitelbaum of Israel; his companion, Carolyn Brown of Englishtown; and three grandchildren. Norma T. Rod

Mrs. Rod, 71, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., formerly of Manalapan and Lakewood, died Sept. 30, 2007, at Littleton Adventist Hospital, Littleton, Colo. Born in Tampa, Fla., she had lived in Manalapan and Lakewood before moving to Highlands Ranch in 2006. She had worked with her husband, Frank, a founding partner of Design 446, and later assisted her sons at their company, Twin Vision Graphics, Howell. Mrs. Rod was predeceased in 1990 by her husband of 38 years, Frank. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Thomas McNamara of Freehold; three sons and two daughters in-law, Frank and Carol Rod of Highlands Ranch, David and Tracey Rod of Jackson, and John Rod of Freehold and companion Veronica Humphrey; three sisters, Josephine D’Ambrosio, Eva Luzzi and Helen Byrne; a brother, Hannibal Hernandez; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by burial at Forest Green Park Cemetery, Morganville section of Marlboro. Frank J. D’Amico

Mr. D’Amico, 80, of Freehold Township, died Oct. 1, 2007, at The Manor Care Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Staten Island, N.Y., for 30 years before moving to Freehold Township two years ago. Mr. D’Amico retired as a New York City deputy fire chief after serving 38 years with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member and former New York state commander of the American Legion, as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the FDNY Anchor Club, the Columbian Association, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife, Alice D’Amico; two sons, Daniel D’Amico and David D’Amico, both of Freehold Township; a brother, Patrick D’Amico of Floral Park, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church. Interment was private. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements. Michael Lebowitz

Mr. Lebowitz, 90, of Manalapan, died Oct. 4, 2007, at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. He was born in the former Soviet Union, in what is now known as Belarus, and had lived in Parsippany and Newark before moving to Manalapan. Mr. Lebowitz was a Holocaust survivor. During World War II, he was a member of the Bielski Partisans, participating in the rescue of more than 1,200 Jews. He came to the United States in 1948 and settled in Newark, where he owned several businesses before retiring to Florida in 1979 while also maintaining his residence in Manalapan. Mr. Lebowitz is survived by his wife of 65 years, Naomi Lungen Lebowitz; two sons, Joel and Robert Lebowitz; and two grandchildren, David Lee and Emily Rachel. A funeral service was held at Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin section of Woodbridge.

Charles S. Accisano

Mr. Accisano, 91, of Freehold, died Oct. 3, 2007, at home. Born in Freehold, he was a lifelong area resident. In 1946 Mr. Accisano and his brothers started Bill’s Body & Fender Works, Freehold, which he operated until his retirement in 1990. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. He was a member of the Old Timers Auto Club and the Antique Automobile Club of America, as well as a founding member of the North Shore Antique Automobile Club of New Jersey Inc., Englishtown. Mr. Accisano enjoyed antique automobile restoration and won first prize nationally for two of his restorations. He was predeceased in 2004 by his wife, Camille A. Accisano. Surviving are a son and daughter-inlaw, Francis C. and Judith Accisano of Brielle; a daughter and son-in-law, Charleen and Peter Blevins of Freehold Township; two brothers, Nicholas Accisano of Manalapan and William Accisano of Hawley, Pa.; a sister, Rose Palitto of Bayville; five grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. The funeral liturgy was offered at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Blanche L. Savitsky

Mrs. Savitsky, 90, of Freehold, died Oct. 4, 2007, at The Brookside Assisted Living Community, Freehold. Born in New York City, she had lived in the Covered Bridge section of Manalapan before moving to Delray Beach, Fla., and then returning to Freehold two years ago. Mrs. Savitsky had been an insurance underwriter for the David Van Iderstine Co., Red Bank. She sang in the Covered Bridge choir and acted in the Delray Beach community. She also enjoyed sculpting and sewing. Mrs. Savitsky was predeceased in 2006 by her husband of 62 years, Solomon. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce and Gary Nathan of the Morganville section of Marlboro, and Gloria Pearlman of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, followed by interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin section of Woodbridge. Maria O. Tinio

Mrs. Tinio, 92, of Burr Ridge, Ill., died Oct. 5, 2007, at home. She was born in the Philippines on April 16, 1915, and immigrated to the United States in 1983. Mrs. Tinio was predeceased by her husband, Jose Tinio, as well as a son, Jose Tinio Jr., and a daughter, Theresa Tinio. Surviving are two sons and daughtersin law, Eduardo and Lillia Tinio of Toms River, and Cesar and Betty Tinio of Freehold; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Erlinda and Antonio Valdellon of Freehold, Alicia and Rolando Espiritu of Oshkosh, Wis., and Catalina Tinio and Marilou and Joselito Reyes, all of Burr Ridge; 18 grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Catherine Bolger

Mrs. Bolger, 94, of Howell, died Oct. 7, 2007, at Bartley Healthcare Nursing & Rehabilitation, Jackson. She was born in County Mayo, Ireland. Mrs. Bolger was a homemaker and a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin, in March 2007. Surviving are a son, Thomas Bolger of Dallas; a daughter, Kathy Ann Bolger of Manalapan; a sister, Annie May Duffy of Ireland; and two grandchildren. Michael Charles Baldwin II

Mr. Baldwin, 20, died Oct. 5, 2007, in Freehold Township. Born in Freehold, he had lived there his entire life and was a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough. He was attending Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, and also worked part time at The Home Depot in Freehold. Mr. Baldwin is survived by his parents, Michael and Theresa, as well as a brother and a sister, James Michael and Marie Antoinette, both at home. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro.

Janet L. Ekdahl

Mrs. Ekdahl, 69, of Freehold, died Oct. 5, 2007, at home. She was born in Freehold and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Ekdahl started a greenhouse business with her husband in 1963. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold, where she served as a deacon and was a member of both the church session and the Women’s Circle. A 4-H member throughout her youth, she designed and modeled clothes competitively. She also participated in the Women’s Farm Bureau, the 4-H Alumnae, Freehold Beautiful Inc., the Master Gardeners and a tole painting society. In addition, she volunteered for more than 40 years as a cooperative weather observer for the Cooperative Weather Observer Program. Mrs. Ekdahl loved nature and had a passion for art and photography. She was predeceased in 1994 by a brother, the Rev. Kenneth Matthews, who had been the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold. Surviving are her husband, Paul, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage this year; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Patty Ekdahl; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dawn Ekdahl, and Wendy and Patrick Mc- Cooey; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Eleanor T. Schlechtweg

Mrs. Schlechtweg, 68, of Jackson, died Oct. 3, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Neptune Township, she had resided in Freehold Township from 1960 to 1983, in Manalapan from 1983 to 2000, and in Jackson for the past seven years. She and her husband operated Crest Fruit Farm, Manalapan, until their retirement in 2000. Mrs. Schlechtweg was a 50-year member and secretary of Monmouth Grange No. 92; a member and secretary of Monmouth County Pomona Grange No. 12; and a member of the New Jersey State Grange, where she held the office of Ceres. She is survived by her husband, William A. Schlechtweg Jr.; two sons and daughters-inlaw, Ronnie and Sharon Schlechtweg of Howell, and Robert and Kristen Schlechtweg of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Rodney Carr of Jackson; two brothers, Garrett Thompson of Colts Neck and William Thompson of Kenbridge, Va.; three sisters, Dorothy Matthews of Freehold, Jeannette Niehaus of Centreville, Md., and Elizabeth Possehl of Las Cruces, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and a greatgranddaughter. Irving Weksler

Mr. Weksler, 59, of Marlboro, died Oct. 11, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived there before moving to Marlboro 25 years ago. He was a graphic artist. Mr. Weksler served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, during the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Dorothea; two daughters and a son-inlaw, Jennifer Weksler and Robert Hart of Marlboro, and Stacey Weksler of Matawan; three brothers, Lyle Weksler of Marlboro, Gary Weksler of Flushing, N.Y., and Steven Chirieleison of Brooklyn; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Bernadette and John Kristoffersen of Long Island, N.Y., and Marion Galuska of Manalapan; and two granddaughters. A funeral service was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by interment at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery.
