Cranbury’s Chowdhury aids Larries

PRINCETON — The Lawrenceville boys’ soccer team produced very little offense in it’s NJISAA Group B semifinal loss to Hun on Wednesday.
In fact, there were only five Larries shots taken in the 3-0 loss.
But the two most dangerous were off the foot of Cranbury’s Nayir Chowdhury, who whistled one over the goal in the first half, and had one saved in the second.
The former Cranbury School standout has become an offensive threat, despite playing out of position.
”He’s been having a very good season,” Lawrenceville coach Blake Eldridge said. “He’s got five or six goals, a couple assists, when we run a play he scores on free kicks.
”He’s a speedy player. He’s probably not a natural forward, but that’s where he plays for us. He’s much better in the midfield, going forward with speed, and he has great vision.”
But, because of Lawrenceville’s lack of finishers, Chowdhury has made the jump forward.
”That’s kind of what we need him to do,” Eldridge said of the junior. “He’s put the team and he’s been impressive this year too.
”We don’t take advantage of all of his skills, but the way we need him to help us, he has to play up front. He’s still one of those good players who’s a fulltime soccer player and you really see it in his play and his composure.”
Chowdhury saw some time as a freshman, earning one start, and became a regular starter last year and this year.
”He was on the outside flanks early on as a younger boy,” Eldridge said. “Then he moved into the center a little last year and now he’s up front.”
And doing quite well, to say the least.
