. . .while their alma mater wins the Tri-County championship

One day before Princeton High became the Mercer County Tournament champions, half of its feeder system became the Tri-County Conference champions.
The Cranbury School boys soccer team defeated New Egypt, 4-0, last Thursday to lay claims to the Tri-County title.
Kevin Halliday opened the scoring by converting a feed from Elliott Wilson. Cliff Mawn then assisted Zach Halliday to make it 2-0. Aidan Passannante put it out of reach with an unassisted goal, and Callahan O’Meara fed Alex Torske for some icing on the championship cake.
The Vikings will lose Wilson (3 goals, 2 assists), Cliff Mawn (4 assists), Alex Rifkin (2 goals), Will Schwartz (goal) and Kellen Kenny, but have some talent returning.
”We have a very promising team coming back next year,” said coach Sean Cox. “Our top three point leaders will all be back.”
That trio includes 7th-graders Zach Halliday (4 goals, 7 assists) and Passannante (7 Goals) and 6th-grader Kevin Halliday (4 goals, 3 assists).
Seventh-grader Scott Barbano (2 goals, 2 assists) also helped with the scoring, as did 6th-graders O’Meara (1 goal, 1 assist), Torske (1 goal) and John Blair (1 assist).
GIRLS SOCCER
Vikings ended on a high note, taking a 3-1 victory at New Egypt. Logan O’Meara, McKenzie Henderson and Mary Burke had the Cranbury goals, with Henderson scoring on an incredible shot outside the 18, as she beat her defender and hooked one into the upper right hand corner.
Goalies Burke and Meghan Brennan “did an unbelievable job” according to coach Meredith Montenare.
”Meghan has been a big surprise for us lately in net,” the coach said. “Although she didn’t start out the season as a goalie, her unbelievable skills in net were noticed soon enough.
”Both Mary and Meghan should be applauded for their tremendous efforts. Goalie is not an easy position to play.”
Montenare felt the entire year was a success.
”The girls really had a wonderful season,” she said. “For those that are moving on in the high school, they will certainly be missed. I wish them the best of luck.”
