Princeton has tough regular-season finale

TRENTON – The best thing about Princeton High’s 12-7 loss to Trenton last Saturday is that it had no bearing on the playoff race.
If it did, it would have been one brutal loss.
The Little Tigers rallied for a fourth-quarter touchdown by Steve Borchert and extra point to take a 7-6 lead, only to watch Trenton quarterback Devon Hill score from a yard out on fourth down to win the game with 32 seconds remaining.
”We figured it would be a quarterback sneak, it usually is,” said Little Tigers linebacker Joe D’Eramo, a Cranbury resident. “We’ve seen it a lot this year.”
Actually, it looked like the Little Tigers had it pretty well defended, as Hill appeared to come down with the ball right on the goal line. Were it the NFL, the boys upstairs would have quickly been calling for a replay.
Even so, Princeton should not have been in that position. But four turnovers cost the Little Tigers, with the last one setting up Trenton’s winning drive.
”It’s frustrating,” D’Eramo said. “We had our chances. A lot of fumbles and picks really hurt us and a couple of long runs by their quarterback hurt.
”But we’re going to the playoffs so we’ll just do the best we can This game will definitely make us work harder next time, make us practice harder during the week and see how we can do.”
