FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Actress June Lockhart and the American Boychoir will help celebrate Applewood Estates’ new $38 million expansion, renovation and service enhancement project on Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend the preview inaugural tour celebration of the not-for-profit lifecare affiliate of CentraState Medical Center. Lockhart will serve as the keynote speaker at the event.
Applewood Estates is on Gully Road.
“This really is an exciting time at Applewood Estates and we are delighted to have Ms. Lockhart and students of the American Boychoir as our distinguished guests for this highly anticipated celebration among our residents, their families and entire staff,” said Gloria Zayanskosky, executive director. “We are proud of our new look and can’t wait to share what promises to be a festive occasion with everyone.”
As the keynote speaker, the 82-year-old Lockhart will share her personal and professional inspirations for leading an active lifestyle. The legendary actress’ film career began in 1938 as the daughter in “A Christmas Carol” opposite her parents, Gene and Kathleen Lockhart.
Throughout her stage, movie and television career spanning more than seven decades, she has garnered numerous acknowledgements, including a Tony Award for her role as the ingénue in “For Love or Money.”
Her latest movie role is as a grandmother whose granddaughter kidnaps a customer and brings him home to meet her family. “Holiday in Handcuffs” premieres Dec. 9 on ABC Family.
“Ms. Lockhart personifies the typical Applewood Estates resident. She is active, accomplished in her profession, has a family and continues to rediscover former interests while exploring new pursuits,” said Jay Solomon, vice president of CentraState Senior Services.
In addition to a fulfilling acting career, Lockhart is an active adviser and fundraiser on behalf of International Hearing Dogs, a training program for animals to assist those who are hearing impaired. She also is an advocate for osteoporosis awareness and research funding, was instrumental in obtaining funding for the Santa Monica, Calif., Police Department’s Mounted Patrol, promoted volunteerism at the AARP national convention on volunteerism and serves as chairwoman of the First Federal Bank’s Community Redevelopment Agency Committee.
“All of us at Applewood Estates and our neighbors from the surrounding Freehold community are looking forward to this momentous occasion and its significance,” Zayanskosky said. “It represents the culmination of our expansion program and the establishment of a new standard for lifecare in New Jersey as well as a celebration that spans across the generations.”
Following Lockhart’s address, the American Boychoir, based in Princeton, will perform traditional and seasonal selections at noon as part of this multigenerational program.
