EDISON – A residence on North Evergreen Road was subjected to a drive-by shooting, according to police.

Police public information officer Lt. Joseph Shannon said that at 2:10 p.m. Dec. 2, a 26-year-old man was in his apartment when he heard the sound of gunfire as well as the noise from an impact. He rushed outside to see what had happened but didn’t see anyone. He did, however, notice a bullet hole in the frame of his front picture window.

Police arrived on the scene and confirmed that a small-caliber round had penetrated the bottom of the resident’s window frame. There were no injuries reported from the incident, which Shannon said is under investigation.

Police also reported a structure fire on the same day in a condo on Lilly Court around 11:30 a.m. People leaving the Inman Avenue Racquet Club saw smoke coming from the condo in question, located on the second floor. They immediately called 911, and police and firefighters arrived on the scene. After emergency personnel forced their way into the residence, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

A 64-year-old woman was found in the bedroom, and was pronounced dead. Police are investigating the cause of the fire, as well as the cause of the woman’s death.
