Corrynne Farrington Godwin

Mrs. Godwin, 87, of Shrewsbury, died Dec. 10, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she relocated to the Jersey Shore in 1942, and to Shrewsbury in 1965. She was a retired electronic engineer for the U.S. Army Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, one of the first female engineers at the Fort, and one of two African American female engineers to attain the level of senior engineer. She was also the passive devices team leader in the components control center, electronic devices branch. She was a member of the Zonta Club of Monmouth County for more than 30 years, and had the Corrynne F. Godwin Scholarship named in her honor. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Lambda Omega Omega Chapter, and former member of the North Jersey Shore Chapter of Continental Societies. She was president of the Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts during the 1970s. She enjoyed bridge and was a life master bridge player, and traveling worldwide. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Elmer “Ace” Godwin; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mignon G. Williams of Ashburn, Va., and Laurna Godwin Hutchinson and Sam Hutchinson of Alton, Ill.; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. A funeral service was held at Christ Church, Shrewsbury.
