Franklin S. Kinkle

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP — Lt. Col. Franklin S. Kinkle, 89, died March 17 at his residence.
    Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Bridgeton, he was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army.
    A veteran of World War II and Korea, and the recipient of numerous decorations including the Purple Heart and Army Commendation Medals, he retired from the military after 25 years. He ended his career in the CIA in Washington, D.C.
    Following his retirement from the military, Col. Kinkle worked for the State of New Jersey, Department of Agriculture for 35 years.
    He was an avid golfer who shot his age in 1999 at the age of 79. He attended the Juliustown Methodist Church.
    Col. Kinkle is survived by his wife, Esther Fonde Kinkle; his daughter and son-in-law, Diane K. and George Johnson of Bridgeton; two grandchildren, Karen Elwell and Heather Meyers; and two great-grandchildren.
    Also surviving are a stepson, Bert Fonde and his wife Linda, and two step-grandchildren, Bert and Patricia.
    The funeral was Tuesday at the Perinchief Chapels, Mount Holly.
    Burial in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery was private.
