Entries sought for library Battle of the Bands

The Monmouth County Library is looking for local musicians ages 15-21 to compete in a five-part Teen Battle of the Bands competition in June and July. The competition celebrates the start of the Young Adult Summer Reading Program.

The first Monmouth County Library Battle of the Bands event started with Howell Library’s competition last summer. This year’s Teen Battle of the Bands, now a system-wide event, will travel to four branches: Ocean Township on June 7, Howell on June 20, Wall Township on June 27 and Marlboro on June 28. The grand finale will be held at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan on July 12. Each event will feature five to six local bands.

Rules and entry forms are available at the participating Monmouth County Library branches. All entries must be received by May 9.

Prizes for winning bands may include free recording time, an opportunity to perform a show with a national act, a clothing sponsorship, a free banner, a photography package, a possible tour package, and an on-air interview on Monmouth University’s WMCX 88.9 FM. The Teen Battle of the Bands Grand Finale winner will perform at the Monmouth County Fair on July 23 at 5 p.m. Details: www.monmouthcountylib. org.
